Job Summary

California State University San Bernardino (CSUSB) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire 60 miles east of Los Angeles and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley. CSUSB serves approximately 20000 students of which 81% are first-generation college students and graduates about 5000 students annually. As a designated Hispanic Serving Institution CSUSB reflects the dynamic diversity of the region and has one of the most diverse student populations of any university in the Inland Empire and the second highest Hispanic enrollment of all public universities in California. CSUSB employs 467 full-time faculty and offers 48 undergraduate 35 graduate and one doctoral degree programs and 14 academic programs with national accreditation.

JOB SUMMARY

The Liberal Studies Program at California State University San Bernardino is accepting applications on an on-going basis for our pool of part-time lecturers for upper and lower division Liberal Studies courses that address introduction resources portfolio development and assessment of students preparing to pursue the multiple subjects teaching credential.

The Liberal Studies program is housed under the College of Arts and Letters and offers a rich Liberal Arts & Liberal Studies educational experience through selected courses from a wide range of academic disciplines. The major consists of a common core and a choice of several tracks designed to meet diverse student interests and needs not only for teaching in schools but also for leadership in government non-profit organizations and business and for graduate education in law counseling social work and services public affairs and administration and educational Studies option provides excellent preparation for Elementary teaching while the Liberal Arts optionprovides well-rounded preparation for post-baccalaureate degrees and for employment in business non-profit and government organizations.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Teach one or more sections of the introductory course (CAL 2970) the gateway course (CAL 3970) and senior assessment and writing course (CAL 5900) hold office hours grade student work communicate with the coordinator and other personnel. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University San Bernardino include courses at the main campus in San Bernardino at local high schools and Online policy and expectation of the California State University is that all faculty members will perform all of their duties within the state of California.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must:

  • hold an MA ABD or a Ph.D. degree in a related field in education humanities or social sciences.
  • demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students including first-generation college students.
  • be residing in the state of California at the time of their employment. Per the California State Universitys Out-of-State Employment Policy the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates must expect to have a terminal degree (doctorate in a related field or an MFA) including education humanities and social sciences. Preference will be given tocandidates with the following qualifications:
    • Experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative supportive and inclusive environment.
    • Demonstration of sustained community engagement practices
    • Evidence of a digital humanities portfolio
    • Writing intensive background and/or training
    • Relevant work experience andthose who bring professional capabilities.Experience in interdisciplinary departments or programs is also desirable.

Evidence of scholarly activity publication and innovation is valued. Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application.

CSU Salary Schedule: background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
