Job Title: Prescribing Nurse or Paramedic Practitioner UTCs (Somerset)
Location: Various Urgent Treatment Centres across Somerset
Contract Type: Locum / Bank / Permanent (flexible options)
Hours: Full-time part-time or flexible shifts available (including evenings/weekends)
About the Role
We are seeking experienced and autonomous Prescribing Nurse Practitioners or Paramedic Practitioners to join our dynamic teams across Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs) in Somerset. This is a rewarding and fast-paced role for advanced clinicians who can independently manage a wide range of minor injuries and illnesses including face-to-face assessments diagnostics and treatment.
You must be confident in clinical decision-making independent prescribing and hold IRMER and Red Dot competencies due to the injury presentations commonly seen in UTCs.
Key Responsibilities
Assess diagnose treat and discharge patients presenting with both minor illnesses and injuries.
Work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe effective care.
Interpret x-rays under Red Dot protocol and refer appropriately.
Order and interpret investigations including imaging and pathology.
Prescribe medications independently within your clinical competency.
Accurately document consultations care plans and referrals in line with governance standards.
Ensure safe and timely management of patients escalating where necessary.
Essential Requirements
Registered Nurse (NMC) or Paramedic (HCPC) with valid registration.
Independent Prescriber (V300 qualification).
IRMER (Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations) training and compliance.
Red Dot x-ray interpretation training and experience.
Proven experience in urgent care minor injuries units A&E or walk-in centres.
Strong clinical assessment diagnostic and decision-making skills.
Up-to-date DBS (or willing to apply) and mandatory training.
Excellent communication documentation and teamworking skills.
Desirable
Advanced Practice MSc or equivalent experience.
Familiarity with clinical systems such as EMIS or SystmOne.
Previous experience working across multiple UTC or urgent care settings.
