Job Summary
AECOMs West Region is actively seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineer to join the Arizona Southwest Dams team. Our strong local presence across Arizona opens the doors to significant and interesting projects in the mining dams and power this role there is opportunity to grow technical and non-technical skills alongside a team of seasoned professionals while being given ownership that will stretch your potential. The Engineer will support our dams mining and surface water business lines. We are looking for an engineer with strong civil hydrologic and hydraulic skill sets to work with our multidiscipline teams to deliver challenging water resource projects related to civil design dam design hydraulic design of spillways development of surface water models dam breach studies development of hydrologic models (frequency and extreme storm events) and associated reporting.
The primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Contribute to the design of regional mine sites power plants and dams. Facilities include stockpiles impoundments tailing dams and water dams.
- Generate conceptual layouts/designs and perform calculations/analyses for channels culverts headwalls detention ponds operating ponds spillways rock drains check dams and haulage/access/circulation roads. Designs incorporate erosion control features geosynthetics and exposed or sub-surface piping.
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using HEC-HMS and/or HEC-RAS.
- Develop quantity and cost estimates and alternative assessments.
- Prepare drafts of portions of technical proposals reports regulatory agency permits as well as less complex external and internal documents.
- Prepare reservoir and pond designs including geosynthetic lining leak detection/collection systems breach analysis outlet works and spillways
- Design channels and energy dissipation structures that include concrete riprap articulated concrete block fabric-formed concrete and baffle blocks for erosion control
- Intermittently engage on regional projects with other offices in the region.
- Demonstrate ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues.
Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Civil Engineering 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Valid US Drivers License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within 1 year of employment.
- Ability to travel
- Experience and familiarity with the following programs: HEC-HMS HEC-RAS 1D/2D AutoCAD Civil3D ArcGIS
