Job Summary

Reporting to the Principal of Indigenous Education the Graduation Coach will support Indigenous students in the Graduation Coach Program for Indigenous Students by:

• Acting as a mentor and advisor to students.

• Collaborating with school-based staff system staff and community partners to address individual and systemic barriers (academic mental health justice cultural knowledge).

• Identifying and addressing individual barriers to engagement learning and well-being.

• Facilitating access to academic support and community resources.

• Supporting the holistic well-being of First Nations Métis and Inuit children and youth.

Qualifications

Candidates must have:

• Diploma or degree in Social Work Child and Youth Work Counselling or a related field.

• A minimum of three (3) years of directly related experience working with youth preferably in an educational or community-based setting.

• Comprehensive first-hand life experience deeply rooted in local Indigenous communities.

• Preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as First Nations Métis or Inuit.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous traditional teachings culture perspectives values and history with deep connections to the local Indigenous community.

• Understanding of the diversity and composition of Indigenous communities.

• Ability to identify systemic barriers and appropriate intervention points.

• Awareness of local community resources and proven ability to support students and families in accessing and navigating these resources.

• Excellent communication interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

• An inclusive approach to relationship building and the demonstrated ability to build rapport with various stakeholders.

• Strong problem-solving abilities sound judgment and cultural sensitivity.

• Demonstrated ability to mentor and advise Indigenous youth with empathy and respect.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a large caseload prioritize effectively and maintain accurate records.

• Proven ability to handle sensitive and contentious issues with discretion and confidentiality.

• Access to reliable transportation for local travel to schools and home visits when required.
