Job Summary

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Caseworker Supervisor (SC18) Positive Energy Always Creates Elevation (P.E.A.C.E) Unit

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides comprehensive administrative and operational support to the Director of Mens Program Services. Oversees the daily functions of the P.E.A.C.E. Unit and manages the supervision of caseworkers interns volunteers and other assigned staff involved in departmental programs and initiatives. Collaborates closely with other Caseworker Supervisors to ensure effective oversight of all caseworkers within the Mens Program Services Division. Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Subject to assignment. At the Jail works under the general supervision of the Assistant Deputy Superintendent. At the House of Correction works under the general supervision of the Director of Mens Program Services.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Directly supervises caseworkers interns volunteers and support staff. Supervises other staff as directed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assists in the development planning and organization of institutional programs for the general population and specifically for the departments emerging adult population (ages 18-25).

2. Supervises and conducts ongoing programs and groups in the P.E.A.C.E. unit including daily direct contact with incarcerated individuals.

3. Assigns tasks supervises and assists with the administrative duties for Mens Program Services Division staff involved in the administration of programs.

4. Must be able to perform all duties and responsibilities of a Caseworker. Provides casework services to incarcerated individuals Meets with incarcerated individuals on a daily basis identifying and assessing personal classification parole and programmatic issues affecting their sentence and reentry into the community. Maintains office hours in the housing units on a regular basis.

6. Refers incarcerated individuals to programs and support services including but not limited to treatment services religious services programs educational programs medical and legal services.

7. Supports incarcerated individuals between the ages of 18-25 with their transition to the community following their incarceration while promoting pathways that emphasize positive life changes.

8. Assists individuals with reentry and discharge plans relative to housing employment education treatment and medical services available in the community.

9. Trains new Caseworkers.

10. Provides guidance on personal classification and programmatic matters. Identifies and resolves potential problems not immediately apparent to the individual (e.g. discharge date calculation canteen classification parole discharge issues).

11. Submits periodic summary reports to appropriate agencies and such other persons as directed by the Director of Mens Program Services.

12. Assists in ensuring that the Department is providing evidenced based programming.

11. Flexibility and ability to learn and perform new duties and skills as assigned.

12. Such other duties and assignments as the Sheriff may assign from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Considerable knowledge of the criminal justice system jails houses of correction courts probation bail parole and their effect.

2. Experience working with incarcerated individuals ages 18-25

3. Knowledge of Social Service resources available in the community i.e. drug/alcohol housing welfare etc.

3. Knowledge of community agencies and resources that work with young adults between the ages of 18-25.

3. Experience and knowledge of a Caseworkers daily activities.

4. Ability to assist in the management and supervision of a department dealing with social service issues as well as coordinating and completing daily office tasks.

5. Understand the role of program services in a county jail and House of Correction.

6. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

7. Considerable Knowledge of the organization staffing policies and operation of the Sheriffs Department is preferred.

8. Two years of caseworker experience or a combination of education experience and training which provides the knowledge skills and abilities indicated above. Associate or Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
