Are you interested in supporting aquatic habitat restoration throughout the Salish Sea The Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Aquatic Resources Division as a Restoration Manager to support restoration projects by providing technical support and data visualization utilizing GIS databases and creating outreach materials to highlight program partnership with the other Restoration Managers under the supervision of the Derelict Structure Removal Program Lead and with guidance from the Restoration Program Manager this position assists restoration and removal projects. This position is supervised by the Derelict Structures Removal Program Lead and will work with the entire restoration program to assist in project implementation and is funded through 30 June 2027.

Duties

Responsibilities:
The Restoration Managers responsibilities include the following:

  • Gives technical support and data visualization for the restoration program utilizing geospatial database platforms to track and highlight Restoration Program accomplishments.
  • Assist with coordination from project leads with the development and implementation of various habitat restoration and derelict structure removal projects
  • Assist with submersible remotely operated vehicle (ROV) program development including data collection processing/management and data visualization. Coordination of field- and vessel-based data collection and operations with restoration project leads.
  • Manages and maintains capital assets needed for the DSRP and Restoration Program including trucks trailers vessels submersible remotely operated vehicle (ROV) power equipment and tools. Ensure equipment is maintained and operated safely.
  • Works closely with restoration project leads and partners to develop and implement restoration program goals.
  • Provides timely communication to other DNR staff and external partners (including Tribal state NGO and federal partners) and conducts education and outreach to the public.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelors degree in environmental science natural resource management forestry geography marine science other science engineering land use or environmental planning public policy or other relevant field;
    OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • 2 years of work experience in one of the following disciplines: environmental science natural resource management forestry geography marine science other science engineering land use or environmental planning public policy or other relevant field.
  • 2 years of recent work experience in GIS software including ArcGIS with a focus on creating geospatial databases data collection and management.
  • Experience using spatial data to create compelling outreach products for distribution to project partners and the public.
  • Experience managing multiple complex tasks setting workload priorities and completing tasks on time.
  • Experience speaking and writing clearly and succinctly.
  • Experience collaborating on complex and contentious issues in an active respectful cooperative and professional manner.

Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment:
  • Become a certified Cultural Resource Technician. Training will be provided.
  • Become a certified Vessel Operator equivalent to the U.S. Department of the Interior Motorboat Operators Certification Course. Training will be provided.
  • The majority of work is performed in an office or meeting setting with some field work. Field visits involve transport by motor vehicle or boat and include working on or around flowing water (rivers) and marine waters. Foot travel over rough terrain is occasionally required. Field work may occur in all weather conditions.
  • Frequent travel will be required for short periods of time and occasionally may require overnight stays away from home usually no more than three nights at a time.
    Driving is a requirement of the position and often for long distances (up to 300 miles round trip). May require plane ferry and automotive transport to various field locations.
  • A valid drivers license and two years of driving experience. Additionally DNR requires state drivers to possess a license that is not suspended revoked or restricted (for example Occupational/Restricted Driver Licenses or requiring ignition interlock devices). This position requires driving as an essential function. Finalists and/or interview candidates will be asked to provide a driving record from all states in which they have held a license during the past three years.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with contracts such as small public works public works and architecture & engineering contracts.
  • Experience working on Pacific Northwest riverine estuarine and marine nearshore ecosystem processes and habitats.
  • Experience operating small motorboats.
  • Experience with field-based data collection and processing and deployment of field equipment.
  • Experience interpreting and implementing guidelines regulations and laws associated with natural resource management environmental protection and/or cultural resource protection.
  • Experience with project and program management focused on restoration/removal work typically involving ecological restoration or environmental engineering activities (e.g. environmentally focused AmeriCorps service fisheries enhancement group stream restoration).
  • Experience applying for and managing grants for natural resource/environmental protection or recreation projects.
  • Experience facilitating meetings and giving public presentations.
