Job Description Summary:

The Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) supports the academic mission of the KU School of Nursing by facilitating student learning. GTAs serve as professional role models assist with instructional tasks and provide constructive unbiased feedback to students. This role requires strong communication organizational skills and responsiveness to program needs. Candidates must be enrolled in a KU Nursing graduate program and hold an active unencumbered RN license.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Graduate Teaching Assistants will:

  • Serve as professional role models to students.

  • Facilitate student learning in classrooms and labs.

  • Assist with educational tasks according to their expertise and program needs.

  • Maintain strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Respond promptly to requests and complete assigned duties in a timely manner.

  • Communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Enrollment as a student in a KU School of Nursing Graduate program (minimum 6 credit hours).

Certification

  • Active unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Kansas or a multi-state RN license issued by another Nurse Licensure Compact state.

Preferred Qualifications

Education

  • Completion of 1 year of graduate-level coursework.

  • Enrollment in the KUMC Health Educator Certificate program.

Work Experience

  • 1 year of experience in a clinical setting.

  • 1 year of experience as a nursing preceptor or a graduate assistant in an undergraduate program.

Skills

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft applications including Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to education experience and training qualifications relative to the requirements of the position and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
