Job Title: Kitchen Equipment Technician
Reports to: Director of Nutrition & Director of Facilities & Maintenance
Dept./Campus: Maintenance
Primary Purpose:Under general supervision maintain repair and install commercial/industrial food service equipment and heating ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) and equipment in district kitchens and buildings. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all food service equipment in district facilities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Valid Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) journeyman HVAC Class B license
- Clear and valid Texas drivers license
- EPA Refrigerant certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of HVAC repairs maintenance and installation techniques
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints diagrams schematics and written reference material
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work independently
Experience:
- Five years experience in commercial kitchen appliance repairs preventative maintenance programs and refrigeration/HVAC service repair
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair
- Diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of HVAC and commercial food service equipment and appliances including but not limited to coolers and freezers food cookers heaters and warmers all oven types dishwashers food waste disposers mixing and cutting equipment ice machines clothes washers and dryers exhaust ventilation systems heat exchangers boilers air conditioning and heating systems and chillers.
- Install and maintain sinks drains water supply lines faucets valves traps disposals water heaters wash basins sewer pipes water filters plumbing related to fountain drink systems and other related devices and equipment.
- Install wire and connect kitchen and HVAC equipment and components including motors compressors temperature controls electronic components such as circuit boards igniters digital controls alarms and fixtures according to wiring schematics.
- Receive and complete work orders. Select materials and hardware make time and materials cost estimates and maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Manage and maintain inventory and determine stock levels of kitchen chemicals. Order track record and maintain inventory parts for commercial kitchen appliances and commercial refrigeration equipment.
- Maintain preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for kitchen equipment following established inspection procedures. Make recommendations for equipment replacement.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure the areas are clean.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed.
Documentation and Records
- Ensure compliance with federal state and district laws regarding chemical and refrigerant management and maintain all required records and documentation.
- Maintain inventory of tools equipment and materials in accordance with district policies and procedures.
- Maintain compliance documentation in accordance with federal state and district laws and policies.
Safety
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.
- Work in harmony with supervisory faculty and peer personnel.
- Use professional information discreetly and judiciously.
- Support and follow administrative and Board policy.
- Represent the school system to the community in a positive professional way.
- Maintain a sincere friendly attitude toward patrons.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Electrical measuring and testing equipment; welding equipment; hand tools; power tools; hoist; light truck or van
Posture: Frequent standing kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
Motion: Frequent walking climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding grasping/squeezing wrist flexion/extension and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting: Daily Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over)
Environment: Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; may work on rooftops; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures dust toxic chemicals and materials noise vibration and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; may work irregular and prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
