THE OPPORTUNITY

Your work will be hands-on and varied including:

  • Livestock/pasture management and animal health care

  • Feed budgeting working closely with the Farm Manager

  • General farm maintenance and fencing

  • Maintaining records and ensuring environmental compliance

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a practical outdoor environment and brings a strong health and safety mindset to all they do.

THE FARM

Meringa Station is a 1471-hectare rolling hill property located just 22 km from Taumarunui. The farm is known for its high-performing sheep and beef breeding and finishing operations carrying approximately 16000 stock units about 9000 sheep and 7000 beef cattle.

With excellent access and well-established tracks throughout the property features reliable stock water supplied via reticulated systems troughs or dams. Meringa Station produces an impressive 8800 kg of pasture dry matter per hectare each year with most of the farm dedicated to lamb finishing despite only 33% of the land being cultivatable and 41% classified as moderate hill country.

Meringa Station offers a productive and well-supported farming environment. You may already be a senior shepherd or you might be looking for that next step in your career either way youre someone who cares about farming enjoys working with animals and wants to be part of a team that supports one another and strives for great results.

You will:


Enjoy working with livestock and make animal welfare a priority
Ideally bring a team of working dogs
Be organised reliable and self-motivated
Communicate clearly and work well in a team environment
Be comfortable keeping accurate records and using farm technology (or keen to learn)
Take pride in safety wellbeing and caring for farm assets
Hold a valid restricted or full driver licence
