  • Rotating every 2 4 weeks per schedule period (manager ensures safe turnaround time)

Job Description Summary:

The NICU Registered Nurse provides specialized care to critically ill neonates in a Level III or Level IV NICU. This role requires at least 2 years of NICU experience and neonatal ICU competencies across gestational ages from < 24 weeks through term infants. Travelers must manage 1:3 ratios perform neonatal emergency interventions support high-risk deliveries and utilize Epic for charting. Candidates must be prepared to float to multiple Providence facilities within the region with incentives provided for Seaside float assignments. First-time travelers accepted.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive NICU care for premature and critically ill infants (Level III/IV) including < 24 28 weeks 29 34 weeks and >34 weeks gestation.

  • Manage ventilator-dependent neonates on AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BiPAP/PEEP HFNC and Bubble CPAP.

  • Administer neonatal medications including antibiotics/antivirals steroids surfactants vasopressors and perform neonatal dosage calculations.

  • Perform APGAR scoring support high-risk deliveries and provide developmental and family-centered care.

  • Manage UACs UVCs arterial lines central line draws NG/NJ tubes gavage/breast/bottle feeding and phototherapy.

  • Monitor neonatal glucose bilirubin levels thermoregulation and NAS scoring/interventions.

  • Interpret and manage neonatal dysrhythmias and cardiovascular instability.

  • Perform wound care isolation precautions and infection prevention activities.

  • Accurately chart patient assessments interventions and outcomes in Epic.

  • Float to other NICUs and compatible units across multiple Providence facilities depending on patient census and staffing.

  • Participate in on-call standby when not needed on unit.

  • Work rotating weekends according to unit scheduling.

Key Requirements:
  • Minimum 2 years of Level III or IV NICU RN experience.

  • No charge experience required despite the Charge unit title.

  • Epic charting required.

  • Must float to multiple Providence locations (Milwaukie Newberg Portland Hood River Willamette Falls Seaside Saint Vincent).

  • Must have a vehicle for floating between facilities.

  • Required ratios: 1:3.

  • Travel experience not required but if candidate has less than 5 years of experience travel experience is highly preferred.

  • Weekends required (rotating).

  • On-call standby required when not needed on unit.

  • Block scheduling not guaranteed.

  • Pending license not accepted.

  • 48-hour schedules not approved.

  • RTO must be included at submission.

  • Seaside floating incentive: TBD/hr plus mileage reimbursement; hotel offered if floating consecutive shifts.

Qualifications Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program (ASN ADN BSN).

  • Additional neonatal or critical care coursework preferred.

Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years recent Level III or Level IV NICU experience.

  • Experience managing:

    • Micro-preemies (< 24 28 weeks)

    • High-risk deliveries

    • Ventilator-dependent neonates

    • Neonatal central lines (UAC/UVC)

    • Neonatal emergencies (apnea RDS hemodynamic instability)

  • Experience floating within a health system preferred.

License:
  • Active RN License Required (no pending licenses).

  • BLS Required

  • NRP Required
