SENIOR ACCOUNTANT (Permanent)
Our client a civic organization in WNY is looking to hire a Senior Accountant to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a resident of the City of Buffalo who is a self-starter and has a keen eye for detail.
Responsibilities:
- Perform daily accounting responsibilities for upwards of 20 entities to ensure contributing to the overall financial success of the municipality
- Prepare complex journal entries ensuring financial information is up to date and accurate and assist with timely posting
- Maintain general ledgers for all entities conducting account reconciliations regularly
- Perform monthly audit of bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of accounting staff
- Prepare financial reports to include payroll-related items contract reviews monthly variance & analysis reports and grant activities
- Manage fixed asset schedule
- Participate in internal/external audits by generating reports and providing accurate documentation
- Assist with Accounts Payables/Receivables by reviewing documents ensuring accurate information and processing in a timely manner
- Manage the review and processing of loan packages setting up encumbrances in HUD system and verify the availability of the funds
- Track budget vs. availability to ensure accuracy in accounting system and proper eligibility of expenses relative to the programs
- Collaborate with various internal team members to conduct project cost reconciliations
- Provide excellent customer service to internal/external team members
- Ensure compliance is maintained at all times
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of government accounting standards and emerging regulations
- Complete special projects in a timely manner
- Work well in a team environment as well as independently
- Other duties as assigned/as necessary
Details:
- Position is full-time direct hire
- 100% in-office with flexibility; excellent work-life balance with minimal overtime
- Must live in the City of Buffalo or move to the city within 6 months of start date
- $70000 - $85000 annually depending on experience with bonus potential
- Excellent benefits PTO
- Bachelors degree in Accounting; MBA preferred
- 5 years nonprofit or governmental Accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Proficient computer skills specifically Excel & various financial software
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent analysis and interpretation skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Self-motivated
- Relocation not available
