Program Summary
The Finance team manages all aspects of the financial operations in the organization ensuring IRCOs financial health transparency and sustainability. The team is comprised of three areas: Accounting Budgets and Awards. Core functions of the team include recording financial transactions creating financial reports for both funders and managers and assisting managers in the interpretation of those reports. With an annual budget of more than $60 million drawn from a complex array of funding streams and a workforce and client base from around the world we are a non-profit leader with a long stable history of financial accountability and excellence.


Position Summary
The position is a blended position with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable responsibilities. The Grants Accountant is responsible for a portfolio of invoices and a category of expense payments. The work includes maintaining detailed records and providing information for external and internal stakeholders.

The successful Grants Accountant will be detail-oriented communicative highly interculturally competent and enjoy contributing to a healthy workplace culture for all employees in support of IRCOs mission.


Essential Functions

  • Prepare invoices and reports as directed by funder requirements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards
  • Reconcile balances for accounts receivable aging and collection reports
  • Respond to funder requests for supporting documents
  • Maintain communication with program managers regarding outstanding receivables
  • Monitor accounts receivables variances in collaboration with budget analysts and program management
  • Prepare payments for a certain category of expenses
  • Other tasks within the accounting team as needed


Secondary Functions

  • Attend recurring all-staff meetings team meetings and other requested meetings
  • Participate in policy work with strategic plan workgroup on request
  • Pursuing relevant training in the field of accounting
  • Support IRCOs strategic goals and objectives
  • This position does not supervise any employees. It will however be asked on occasion to train orient and direct the work of new employees of IRCO
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of personality types and levels of the organization as well as with people outside of the organization
Requirements

Education & Experience

MINIMUM JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting Business or similar combination of education and experience
  • Two years experience in accounting preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) accounting
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Must be proficient in the English language
  • Oral and written communication skills commensurate with the needs of the position
  • Experience/proficient in Management Information Package (MIP) Microsoft Office Microsoft Excel and a variety of software packages
  • Respectful cross-context service; demonstrated skill in understanding variation in community norms
  • Successful experience in accounting with integrated computerized accounting systems
  • Experience and knowledge of State and Federal regulations and related laws

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payables
  • Knowledge of automated accounting systems and capability to assemble review and maintain accounting budget or financial transactions
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in the use of financial software (MIP preferred) Excel and related software applications
  • Strong communication skills in a multilingual multibackground organization
  • Strong ability to work with multi-background staff in a team setting
  • Ability to use initiative and judgment with competing tasks and responsibilities
  • Ability to function in a positive manner in a demanding work environment to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility to respond to priorities and schedules that change frequently and to meet commitments
