Job Overview

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Students and the Associate Director of Basic Needs the Basic Needs Specialist has two main foci: providing direct basic needs services and coordinating efforts around a specific basic needs functional area(s) (food insecurity childcare emergency grants or transportation).

The Specialist will collaborate with the Associate Dean of Students and the Associate Director of Basic Needs to provide direct services and case management for basic needs referrals. This position provides support to students facing a variety of basic needs concerns and delivers day-to-day services in one or more of the functional areas of Basic Needs. The Basic Needs Specialist may work with community agencies to provide and implement basic needs support for students (food banks dining services transportation agencies and childcare facilities). The Specialist will assess needs create a plan provide resources and case management and work with Financial Aid to administer financial support. The Specialist will oversee the administration of one or more of the functional areas of basic needs. Finally the Specialist will provide the necessary data for reports and grants.

The Basic Needs Specialist will collaborate with the Associate Director of Basic Needs to distribute and deliver basic needs services in coordination with various campus and community agencies that provide basic needs. This could be related to food insecurity housing insecurity transportation child care technology or academic support. The Specialist will maintain and support a student caseload with the CCN system and may take general CCN cases as needed. The Specialist will utilize a high degree of cultural fluency to support all students including veterans first-generation students those from historically underrepresented and underserved backgrounds.

Position Summary

Basic Needs Specialist (Student Services Professional II)

This is a full-time temporary exempt position ending on or before one year from date of hire. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individuals performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate this appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date.

Pay Benefits and Work Schedule

Anticipated Hiring Salary Amount: $5083 per month

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5083 - 7228 per month

Salary is commensurate with the background and experience of the individual selected.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits including medical dental vision life and disability insurances retirement (CalPERS) tuition waiver vacation and sick addition 15 paid holidays are offered each year; 14 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
