PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: 35800 to 41767 depending on relevant skills knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC Scotland News and Current Affairs is committed to providing first class journalism to audiences across Scotland and beyond. We provide multi-platform content from newsrooms around the country both in English and Gaelic. We are looking for a Junior Production Manager to become a part of our busy and fast paced department providing day to day support to all areas that will help to maintain the quality of output our audiences expect from us.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • You will be responsible for preparing managing and monitoring areas within the News budget and for forecasting and reporting progress in line with best practice. Contributing to and assessing financial viability of News content ideas that may be commissioned.
  • Responsible for scheduling budgeting and managing news projects productions and news deployments in line with divisional requirements.
  • You will be the Lead IT Coordinator (ITC) for News and with assistance of other ITCs you will be responsible for liaising with Asset Management on IT requirements both in the office and on location and working with line managers to ensure appropriate IT requirements are in place for those who are joining moving within or leaving the department.
  • The role will lead and schedule the News studio support rotas which includes the operational requirements for autocue operation in TV galleries and studio floor support. A requirement of this role is to also be a part of that rota which will require occasional late/evening shifts to be worked during the week.
  • Working with Production Management Assistants the role will have oversight and responsibility for ensuring that News teams are supported in relation to pre & post-production requirements including music and stills clearance and completion of all paperwork via Albert Silvermouse and Proteus.
  • Provide office support to the News department and help maintain a safe and healthy working environment at all times escalating any issues or areas of concern.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Knowledge of BBC Systems (e.g. ACON/SAP OpenMedia Silvermouse Proteus MyBusiness Smartbook Travel & Accommodation Bookings) in line with BBC procedure and policies.
  • Demonstrable business and finance skills able to actualise forecast and manage significant production resource and budgets. Able to interpret an editorial brief explain commissioning requirements and suggest ideas for maximising the value from productions.
  • Demonstrates team leadership skills able to lead develop and motivate teams across a range of output.
  • Strong IT Co-ordinator skills
  • Experience of contributing to and delivering productions on time and on budget using strong organisational planning interpersonal and communication skills.

DESIRED:

  • Experience of influencing and motivating others to reach desired outcomes.
  • Experience of live TV Gallery and Studio environments
  • Able to consider and propose new ways of working to improve existing processes.
