Location: NYC NY (Hybrid within office Monday Wednesdays and Thursdays)

Your Impact:

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Torch youll play a key role in evolving our platforms architecture building high-performance distributed systems and developing agentic workflows that power our next generation of AI-enabled product experiences. Youll design the backend systems that support LLM-powered features at scale - whether that means orchestrating web or voice agents to fetch data building reliable workflows and safeguards for ingestion and normalization or ensuring everything operates securely and compliantly.

Good balance of startup excitement (ownership lean team) and stability/calmness.
Engaged customer base for AI/LLM experimentation and production implementation.

MUST HAVE SKILLS

What we are looking for:

5 years of experience in software engineering.

Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS GCP Azure) and deploying secure compliant workloads.
Demonstrated record of building scalable secure and reliable systems.

Comfortable collaborating with non-engineers including product managers designers and business stakeholders.

Bonus:
Experience leading AI infrastructure projects end-to-end in a startup environment
Contributed to architecture or coding standards for engineering teams.

Experience in early-stage product ideation and design for AI-enabled features.

Hands-on experience with containerization/orchestration (Docker Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code tooling (Terraform Pulumi) for provisioning and managing cloud resources.
