Position Overview

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Dietary Manager I for the Alton Mental Health Center located in Alton Illinois to coordinate and supervise the dietetic and food service programs for patients and staff. Supervises subordinate staff in the preparation serving storage and provision of facility food preparation services. Orders supplies and oversees and maintains inventories. Coordinates with the Clinical Dietitian in the planning and implementing of a variety of diets and menus. Conducts dietary training program in the Dietary Unit.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates and instructs subordinates in the Alton Mental Health Center (AMHC) dietetic and food service programs including food preparation and delivery food storage department housekeeping and sanitation equipment operations safety and maintenance.
  • Coordinates with the Clinical Dietitian in the process of diet planning menu formulation and the service of regular and special/modified diet requirements.
  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable dietary hospital policies and procedures related to program areas. Interprets new or revised policies and procedures for subordinate staff.
  • Confers with supervisor on issues related to budget line items.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college with courses in dietetics.
  • Requires one year of professional experience in a large-scale food service program.
  • Requires possession of a Food Service Sanitation Manager Certificate (FSSMC) issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health OR requires possession of a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification from a program accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Conference for Food Protection (CFP)*

*This requirement is set forth in the Food Handling Regulation Enforcement Act (410 ILCS 625/3).

*Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this class.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of professional experience in dietetics and food services management including nutritional values costs and accounting for a public or private organization.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience using modern methods materials and appliances used in large scale food preparation and service for a public or private organization.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience working with health and sanitary requirements applicable to a large-scale food service.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience planning and directing the preparation of modified diets and menus for a public or private organization.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience directing subordinates in the planning preparing and serving general and special diets and other food services.
  • Two (2) years of experience utilizing computer programs such as Microsoft Suite (i.e. Word Excel PowerPoint) relative to reports records inventory etc.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment including personal computers.
  • Requires the ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires the ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
