    The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Department Chairperson Physical Education Health and Athletics.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
    1. An appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate as deemed necessary by
    2. Masters degree from an accredited college or university.
    3. Three (3) to five (5) years of successful experience in teaching Physical Education and Health as well as in Coaching.
    4. Demonstrated leadership in the organization and administration of a school-level athletic program.
    5. Ability to maintain a positive learning environment and high standards of conduct for student-athletes.
    6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    7. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status. *As defined in N.J.A.C. 6A:9-9 Instructional certificates

    BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    I. Management and Coaching of Instructional Staff

    1. Observes coaches and evaluates assigned faculty and staff and provides ongoing professional development for targeted improvement in identified growth areas.
    2. Completes all activities in accordance with state and district standards and according to the districts timelines.
    3. Collaborates with the Principal in the selection of coaches.
    4. Assumes the orientation and mentor responsibilities of all teachers and faculty.

    II. Curriculum Instruction and Assessment
    1. Serves as leader and expert in the area of Physical Education Health and Athletics.
    2. Organizes and administers the schools program of co-curricular athletics and assumes responsibility for the scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
    3. Ensures assigned faculty is properly equipped with district approved curriculum resources and meets all certification requirements set forth by the NJDOE and NJSIAA.
    4. Reviews and approves lesson plans assessments and grades and certifies alignment to the States Standards with articulation integration and implementation of district approved curriculum through and across grade levels and content areas.
    5. Develops and implements appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities and ensures compliance with the rules promulgated by the NJSIAA.
    6. Conducts model lessons that demonstrate best practices and differentiated techniques for exemplary implementation of various learning objectives.
    7. Collaborates with district-wide Director of Health Physical Education and Athletics in the research and implementation of best practices.
    8. Collaborates with Teaching and Learning in the research and implementation of best practices in curriculum instruction and student assessments.
    9. Prepares analyzes and communicates quarterly student achievement data reports and makes program recommendations according to student needs.
    10. Collaborates with the Principal and Vice Principal(s) in adhering to the secondary course sequence and scheduling guidelines for college and career readiness.
    11. Oversees and manages all aspects of athletics programs in accordance with district and State regulations; demonstrates an understanding of the regulations regarding the operation of an athletic program.
    12. Determines athletic offerings in collaboration with the Principal.
    13. Monitors and ensures the academic and physical eligibility of all athletes.
    14. Manages the purchase of all uniforms and equipment.
    15. Coordinates transportation to and from all games and practices.
    16. Attends required county conference and athletic association meetings.
    17. Assumes teaching responsibilities in areas identified by the Principal when necessary.

    III. Student Life and Family Support
    1. Promotes and leads a positive school-wide climate and culture for students and staff that results in school and class pride as well as student academic achievement.
    2. Engages families and community stakeholders around the vision and mission of the school and district.
    3. Advances gifted and at-promise students with supports to their academic and social and emotional needs by facilitating access to interventions and student activities that result in academic achievement and student leadership.
    4. Monitors implementation of Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Prevention/ Early Intervention (I&RS) action steps to ensure full compliance with State and Federal regulations.
    5. Supports students by facilitating access to interventions and activities that result in achievement and leadership.
    6. Recommends and monitors the implementation of positive behavior supports to ensure a positive school-wide climate and scholarly culture that result in school-wide academic achievement.

    III. Organizational Leadership
    1. Establishes and executes organizational systems and strategies to monitor student faculty school and district goals.
    2. Develops and monitors strategies for high level collaboration among faculty and staff.
    3. Communicates effectively and maintains a positive disposition in all circumstances to ensure an outcome that promotes student academic achievement faculty and staff professional development and school-wide success.
    4. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or district-wide Director of Health Physical Education and Athletics.

    REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL OR DESIGNEE

    SALARY EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION
    1. Salary: $92000 - $128000 (Pending salary negotiations)
    2. Employment Period: 11 months
    3. Union Affiliation: City Association of Supervisors and Administrators (C.A.S.A.)
