Our client a leading Manufacturing company based in Port Shepstone is looking to fill the position of Waste Heat Recovery Coordinator.
Purpose of the Role:
Reporting directly to the Production Manager this role is responsible for ensuring the optimal functioning of the Waste Heat Recovery system to maximize energy efficiency reduce operational costs and contribute to sustainable production by effectively managing operations safety compliance and team performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Targets:
- Optimize WHR system operations to recover maximum energy and ensure steady power generation for plant operations.
- Collaborate with production teams to align WHR output with production needs.
Control of Production Costs:
- Monitor and reduce energy wastage within the WHR process.
- Optimize maintenance schedules to minimize costs while ensuring system reliability.
Monitor Production and Stock Records:
- Maintain records of energy output downtime and heat recovery efficiency.
- Track and manage spares inventory for WHR equipment to minimize production delays.
Control Quality of Output:
- Ensure quality parameters for waste heat utilization and system performance are consistently met.
- Conduct regular audits and performance checks of the WHR system.
Budget:
- Prepare and monitor the budget for the WHR department aligning with corporate financial goals.
- Track spending against budget and justify variances.

- Environmental Safety
General:
- Deep knowledge of WHR technology and its integration into cement manufacturing.
- Continuously explore ways to improve energy recovery and system longevity.
People Management and Development:
- Recruit train and develop WHR team members focusing on technical and safety skills.
- Conduct performance reviews and implement development plans.
Compliance:
- Ensure the WHR system complies with environmental and legal regulations.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes affecting WHR operations.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Matric/Grade 12
- SAQA-accredited Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- GCC Factories & Works (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering).
- SAP PM Module training or certification advantageous.
- At least 5-8 years of experience in a cement manufacturing plant or heavy industry specifically with Waste Heat Recovery Systems or energy optimization projects.
- In-depth knowledge of WHR systems including boilers turbines heat exchangers and power generation technologies.
- Proven experience in managing maintenance troubleshooting and system optimization of WHR or similar thermal systems.
- Ability to work in a high-temperature industrial environment.
- Willingness to work shifts weekends or during plant downtimes for critical system interventions.
- Flexibility to travel between sites if WHR systems are implemented in multiple locations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Advantageous:
- Experience with automation and control systems used in WHR (e.g. SCADA DCS).
- Knowledge of alternative fuels or renewable energy integration into industrial processes.
- Familiarity with energy regulations and compliance standards (e.g. ISO 50001).
- Certified Energy Manager
- Postgraduate qualification in Energy Systems Process Engineering or Industrial Management.
- Certification in Project Management or Lean Six Sigma.
