Drive a Landmark Public Sector Greenfield Implementation
This is your chance to take on a flagship greenfield SAP S/4HANA programme for a major public sector client in Gaborone Botswana. We are looking for a Lead ABAP Consultant who can transform complex requirements into powerful scalable solutions and guide a distributed team to excellence.
About the Role
As the SAP S/4HANA Lead ABAP Consultant you will serve as the technical backbone of the custom development workstream. From architecting high-performance solutions to mentoring developers and engaging with senior stakeholders you will own the full technical lifecycle and ensure seamless delivery across functional domains.
This high-visibility on-site role offers the rare opportunity to influence and shape a national-scale transformation roadmap.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Custom Development & Technical Architecture
Lead the design and delivery of complex ABAP programs enhancements interfaces and extensions.
Produce robust scalable technical specifications and solution designs across S/4HANA modules.
Integration & Middleware
Develop secure reliable integrations using SAP PI/PO OData CDS Views and other middleware technologies.
Ensure consistent data flow and end-to-end process integrity.
Code Quality Performance & Security
Define coding standards conduct reviews and drive performance tuning and secure development practices.
Maintain technical excellence across all custom development assets.
Leadership & Team Management
Lead and mentor a distributed team of ABAP developers.
Cultivate a high-performance collaborative development culture.
Client Engagement
Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to shape solution approaches.
Provide expert advisory troubleshooting and knowledge transfer across all project phases.
Documentation & Handover
Deliver clear technical documentation solution designs and training materials to enable smooth operational transitions.
Requirements
Technical Expertise
Advanced hands-on experience in SAP S/4HANA ABAP including:
Fiori app integration
Adobe/Smart Forms
CDS Views
OData services
Enhancements & custom objects
Education & Certifications
Bachelors degree in Computer Science Software Engineering or related field.
SAP ABAP for S/4HANA Certification (mandatory).
Experience
1015 years of ABAP development experience.
Minimum 2 full S/4HANA implementations with deep custom development.
Experience in public sector environments (advantageous).
Proven success leading and mentoring technical teams.
Pre-Qualifications
Ability and willingness to relocate to Gaborone Botswana.
Available to start on 5 January 2026.
Strong passion for delivering impactful ERP solutions.
