TYPE OF POSITION:
This is a part-time position working approximately 2 hours/week for approximately 10 weeks. The hourly rate is $28.00 and the position is subject to grant funding. Must be available during school hours (8:00 am to 3:00 pm).
LOCATION:
This position will support English learners in Brooklines private schools.
OVERVIEW:
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutor works under the direction of the Public Schools of Brooklines ELE Director to provide tutoring in English acquisition skills for students at one private school. The tutor supports each students language development with a focus on vocabulary use reading writing speaking and comprehension. The ESL Tutor motivates students to apply their growing language skills in each school subject area and in their social interactions.
DUTIES
Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Provides English language tutoring in vocabulary reading writing and speaking throughout the school day per the schedule designed by the Principal or their designee in collaboration with the tutor (must be available between 8:00 am to 3:00 pm);
2. Continuously monitors students understanding of the tutoring content and adjusts instruction as needed;
3. Utilizes appropriate technology to assist students in the acquisition of knowledge and skills in English; and
4. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered qualified for this position candidates must have the following:
1. Licensed in ESL/ELL by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education;
2. Bachelors Degree Masters preferred from an accredited college or university in a related field;
3. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing to children and adults;
4. Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies;
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the district ELE Director may find appropriate and in conformity with state certification requirements.
