The Senior Tax Manager Europe is responsible for regional strategic tax planning tax risk management and tax compliance for assigned group entities. The role will serve as a tax business partner providing appropriate input and tax advice for regional commercial transactions. The role will have a particular focus on Germany.
Duties:
- Tax Strategy
- Advise and provide information and other support on regional tax and TP matters to the Smiths Detection Group Tax Director and other business leaders as necessary.
- Proactively identify manage monitor and mitigate relevant regional tax risks communicate implications to the Smiths Detection Group Tax Director and wider business and support development of an appropriate strategic response
- Tax Compliance
- Deliver the internal and external reporting for EMEA region. Provide support to local financial statements as required by local Finance teams
- Work with external advisors to deliver local tax returns and transfer pricing documentation
- Ensure risk management processes and controls are in place to meet requirements across the region whilst complying with Group Tax policies.
- Tax Advisory
- Identify and assist in the implementation of tax effective strategies aligned with business activities liaising with advisors to ensure appropriate opportunities are identified and risks mitigated
- Assist with tax aspects of acquisitions disposals new entity set ups and new country tax planning as required
- Provide advice on regional TP matters.
- Work to successfully resolve any disputes with regional tax authorities including settling historic matters with a particular focus on Germany while operating within the Groups agreed risk appetite
- Work with the Smiths Detection Group Tax Director to ensure tax-efficient management and allocation of capital
- Management
- Line management responsibility for Tax Manager EMEA based in Wiesbaden including supervision and development of this team member

Qualifications :
Technical Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Accounting or related degree
- Professional Accountancy and/or Tax qualification with experience in an accounting firm or large multinational group.
- Ability to analyse and review statutes regulations and case law and then extract data and make appropriate recommendations
- Excellent project management skills with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to manage multiple priorities and conflicting demands
- Good communication skills and strong team player with an ability to work across teams in various locations
- Experience managing advisors
- A self-confident and personable team player with good networking relationship management and communication skills comfortable with ambiguity
- Demonstrates a proactive flexible hands-on approach taking the initiative to identify issues and develop solutions
- Education requirements (e.g educational level qualifications etc)

Planning and Decision Making:
- Support for M&A activity in the region
- Clear articulation and overall communication of all tax matters for the region
Impact and Scope:
- This role is critical in enabling Smiths Detection to support with managing complex tax risks as the business delivers in the region.
