JOB TITLE SUMMARY

Job Title: Case Manager Student Counseling (10 months)

Division: Student Affairs

Reports To: Director Student Counseling and Resource Center

Job Summary

Through effective case management and the coordination of care between campus and community resources the case manager student counseling will provide services designed to minimize the impact of mental illness or emotional distress on the academic and personal pursuits of students. The case manager also serves on the Leo Cares team and provides crisis intervention and individual counseling as needed. This position is also responsible for consultation and psychological programming for Lindenwood University students.

Job Responsibilities and Execution

  • Participates on the Leo Cares team coordinating referrals between the Student Counseling Resource Center (SCRC) the Leo Cares team and community providers to establish best standards of care services for students in need

  • Directs/refers students to mental health care services in the community when higher levels of mental health treatment or services are needed

  • Meets with students upon return from higher levels of mental health treatment and assists students with care coordination; monitors and follows up with students who have unique mental health concerns that require coordination of care

  • Participates as part of the clinical administrative team by assisting with the management of intake triage and emergency systems; staffing teams; and consultations regarding community referrals and insurance

  • Provides culturally-sensitive individual counseling to a diverse student body that presents with a variety of challenges including but not limited to depression anxiety substance use eating disorders trauma suicidal ideation and academic/family-related stressors

  • Develops and maintains relationships with community mental health providers and other support networks; develops and updates a database of referral and community resources

  • Supervises graduate interns

  • Assists the SCRC director with overseeing the administration of personnel management policies and procedures

  • Maintains data on the amount of usage per term

  • Maintains an active role in the development and implementation of the SCRCs strategic planning objectives and goals as well as those for the Student Life and Diversity as needed

  • Assists with strategically marketing the SCRC to students faculty and staff

Service Excellence

Communication Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Obtains appropriate authorization to collaborate with internal and external partners; consults with parents physicians faculty academic deans Residential Life staff off-campus counseling services and other campus offices when appropriate to provide quality care to students

  • Follows up to ensure that clients are appropriately assessed successfully referred and compliant with treatment recommendations

  • Communicates all duty to warn issues

Job may require other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications An equivalent combination of education training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Masters degree in counseling clinical psychology social work or mental health counseling

  • Licensed or license eligible

  • Minimum of 2 years full-time professional post-masters experience in providing psychological services (individual and group) in a higher education counseling center setting

Knowledge Skills and Abilities May be representative but not all inclusive of the knowledge skills and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures

  • Demonstrated understanding of campus resources available to support student needs

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and relationships with community providers to ensure the successful facilitation of referrals to mental health care outside of the SCRC

  • Demonstrated understanding of the community mental health systems insurances hospitals treatment facilities etc. to facilitate student access to higher levels of care

  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of higher education case management and care/behavioral intervention teams

  • Experience developing and implementing training programs presentations and/or educational opportunities for students faculty and staff

  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience with college student developmental theory and the unique concerns of undergraduate graduate and professional students

  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of professional ethics related to mental health and higher education

  • Strong leadership skills including decision-making collaboration organization and case management

  • Strong written communication skills to include accurate and thorough documentation
