Key Responsibilities

• Design build and repair precision tools dies jigs and fixtures according to specifications.
• Operate a variety of machine tools including lathes mills grinders and EDM machines with high precision.
• Interpret complex blueprints schematics and CAD models to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot issues on existing tooling to minimize downtime.
• Select appropriate materials heat treatments and surface finishes for tool components.
• Conduct thorough quality inspections using precision measuring instruments to ensure tools meet required standards.
• Collaborate with engineering production and quality teams to optimize tool performance and manufacturing processes.

Recommended Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Tool and Die Maker apprenticeship program or equivalent journeyman experience.
• Proficiency in operating a variety of manual and CNC machine tools including lathes mills grinders and EDM.
• Strong ability to interpret complex engineering blueprints schematics and GD&T specifications.
• Expertise in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers calipers height gauges and CMMs.
• Demonstrated knowledge of various tool steels carbides and heat treatment processes.
• Excellent problem-solving skills for tool repair maintenance and optimization.

Bonus Qualifications

• Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for tool design and programming.
• Experience with advanced metrology equipment (e.g. CMM optical comparators).
• Knowledge of heat treatment processes and material science for various tool steels.
• Welding or fabrication experience for tool repair and modification.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles or continuous improvement initiatives.
