The College of Western Idaho is seeking a dedicated and skilled ASL Interpreter to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in accessing a fully inclusive and engaging college this role you will provide advanced-level interpretation transliteration and communication support across classrooms advising sessions tutoring and campus events. Youll play a vital role in breaking down communication barriers coordinating accessibility resources such as note-taking and captioning and supporting ADA compliance initiatives. This position is ideal for a certified licensed and student-centered professional who brings strong ethical practice advanced ASL fluency and a passion for equity in education.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver Advanced Communication Access for D/HH Students

  • Provide high-level ASL interpretation transliteration and voicing across classrooms meetings and campus events.
  • Interpret spoken language into ASL and other signed modalities and signed communication into spoken English ensuring accurate and effective information exchange.
  • Serve as a communication bridge in academic advising tutoring and support service settings.

Support Accessible Learning and Student Success

  • Interpret tutoring sessions and support services and assist students with navigating college processes such as registration financial aid and campus services.
  • Provide follow-up support and connect students to necessary academic and community resources.
  • Assist students in communication and interaction with peers instructors and college staff.

Coordinate and Support Disability Access Services

  • Coordinate note-taking services transcription and closed captioning for instructional materials and college-related media.
  • Support disability education efforts and assist leadership with ADA compliance initiatives.
  • Contribute to the planning development and implementation of comprehensive accessibility programs.

Maintain Professional Standards and Compliance

  • Maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with FERPA and ensure secure handling of sensitive information.
  • Adhere to RID-NAD Code of Professional Conduct and college policies and procedures.
  • Communicate schedule changes and relevant student information to Disability Services Coordinators and participate in department meetings as needed.

Must Haves:

  • Associates degree and completion of Interpreter Training Program (ITP)
  • RID NAD level 5 or above or other state Certification recognized by the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DPOL)
  • Idaho Interpreting License must be current/up to date
  • Ability and knowledge for analysis and interpretation of procedures policies and practicesattainable through specific education and/or training programs in a specialty or technicalfield (ITP)
  • Knowledge of FM systems transcribing systems note-taking captioning
  • Advanced vocational or electronic skills or basic knowledge of a professional field
  • Proven ability to interpret ASL and other various signed modalities to all clientele. (Voice-to-Sign and Sign-to Voice)
  • Understand and communicate signed language at an advanced level using AmericanSign Language and other signed modalities.
  • Demonstrates advanced receptive skills in multiple signed modalities and the ability tocommunicate no less than 80% of the information and materials presented
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of the principle of ethical behavior set by theNational Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf
  • Strong interpersonal organizational and communication skills.
  • The successful candidate will be dynamic and have a high energy level along with a strongcommitment to the community college philosophy
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with adult learners from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences.

Additional Instructions for Applicants:

Most positions at CWI are in-person and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week eligibility for remote work is determined on a case-by-case basis at the hiring managers discretion. All candidates must reside within or be willing to relocate to a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
