Hiring Range: $30.67 - $32.20 Hourly Rate (Depending on qualifications)
Work Days/Hours: Monday Friday
7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; may be required to work the on call rotation schedule or emergency maintenance repairs

JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing complex manual work functions associated with the construction repair and maintenance of water sewer and storm water system and performing the daily operations of the citys water sewer and storm water division. Serves as a lead worker. Reports to the Water & Sewer Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Leads trains and reviews the work of utility maintenance workers providing water sewer and storm water service in support of the Citys utility service.
Serves as the lead worker while responding to and working to resolve a wide variety of difficult customer inquiries or complaints concerning water sewer and storm water; may direct work to the Utility Maintenance Workers.
Handle all routine and emergency maintenance on the water sewer & storm water systems within the City in a timely manner.
Performs manual work functions and operates equipment associated with water sewer and storm water utilities.
Operates bush hog backhoe and other heavy equipment necessary to perform work.
Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
Meets with homeowners to identify and resolve water sewer and/or storm water problems.
Meets with contractors to discuss placement of water meters fire hydrants etc.
Assists with maintaining the water and sewer department inventory; maintains records relating to inspection maintenance activity and repair of the storm water system.
Perform all locates GAUPC that are water sewer and/or storm water related.
Collaborates with the fire department to maintain fire hydrants.
Completes regular maintenance and repairs of water sewer and storm water system to ensure proper functionality.
Communicates with supervisors employees other departments the public and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities review status of work exchange information or resolve problems.
Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary.
Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery equipment and tools in operable condition; reports faulty equipment.
Operates and maintains assigned vehicles; initiates daily safety and general vehicle appearance checks cleans vehicle and schedules preventative maintenance service.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by eight (8) years of related experience in construction maintenance and/or repair of utility systems facilities and water and sewer distribution lines and equipment; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job.
Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid State of Georgia drivers license and must have a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) as defined by City Personnel Policy.
State of Georgia Water Distribution Operator & Wastewater Collection System Operator license a plus.
Special Requirements:
Requires an acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and an acceptable driving record.
Requires satisfactory results from a pre-employment alcohol and controlled substance testing.
This position is deemed safety-sensitive and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic principles of lead work and training.
Knowledge of water sewer and storm water systems.
Knowledge of all aspects of water and sewer line repair.
Knowledge of the methods and procedures necessary to disassemble repair parts of and reassemble water and sewer lines pumps and equipment
Knowledge of basic arithmetic operations.
Knowledge of computer data entry systems and word processing applications.
Knowledge of basic principles and practices for providing customer service to include meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Knowledge of the departments service area.
Skill in using tools necessary for water and sewer line repair and installation.
Skill in utilizing a personal computer with word processing spreadsheet and related software to effectively complete a variety of financial tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy.
Skill in effectively responding to and resolving complex inquiries and disputes.
Ability to read maps as well as utilize a global position system unit and the geographic information system.
Ability to work in a team-based environment
Ability to plan and organize daily work routine in a variety of field conditions.
Ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within well-established policies procedures and standards.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing by using correct English grammar spelling and punctuation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is moderate work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force. Work requires regular and at times sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing stooping kneeling crouching and crawling and that may involve the lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors sounds taste odor depth texture and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an outdoor environment. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such dust pollen odors wetness humidity temperature and weather extremes fumes traffic hazards animal/wildlife attacks or rude/irate customers.
