Job Description:

TSTC faculty deliver approved curriculum content and assessments in an applied learning environment. Responsibilities include facilitation of activities and discussions that engage a range of learning styles with targeted guidance and mentorship to students.

Faculty will also interpret and administer assessments and offer constructive feedback to support student growth and learning outcomes. A key part of the role is to integrate technology effectively to enrich the educational experiences.

Faculty act as ambassadors for their programs and TSTC.

Faculty will demonstrate TSTC Core values of Excellence Accountability Service and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders customers students and members of the community.

INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY:
Prepare and deliver high quality instruction and facilitate the learning of students. Develop appropriate course syllabi and instructional plans and organize daily classes utilizing a variety of creative/innovative techniques.

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT:
Fulfill assigned schedule maintain accurate student records maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety equipment security where applicable and ensure opportunities for student/participant evaluation.

STUDENT RETENTION AND PLACEMENT:
Performs student advisement such that students are provided with timely accurate and comprehensive information. Collaborate with the Office of Student Success to ensure students receive current information on tutoring and other programs designed to increase retention.

PROGRAM RECRUITMENT & PROMOTION:
Participate in related tours and recruitment events. Assist in department/program planning for recruitment.

TEAMWORK & SERVICE:
Demonstrates a willingness to be of service and exhibits pleasant and courteous behavior toward customers (students parents employers and media) organizational coworkers and other general public contacts. Maintains flexibility including availability for evening weekend or summer assignment as appropriate; able to work effectively in a team environment; commitment to the mission vision and values of the college.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

The core competencies for direct instructional delivery in an applied learning environment can be condensed into a few overarching categories:

TEACHING & LEARNING:
Deliver high quality instruction and facilitate the learning of students. Organize daily classes utilizing a variety of creative/innovative techniques.
Tailor teaching methods to diverse learning styles and needs.

MENTORSHIP & COACHING:
Understanding and empathizing with student experiences. Providing personalized guidance and support. Articulating ideas clearly and fostering open communication.

ASSESSMENT & FEEDBACK:
Creating and utilizing assessments to provide constructive feedback and guide evaluating and improving teaching strategies.

TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION:
Effectively using technology to enhance learning experiences.

Required Skills knowledge and certifications or licenses

Effective in teaching and delivering high quality instruction
Possess knowledge of the curriculum with documented experience in various surgical specialties; experience with the use of technology (i.e. robotics) used in the operating room
Effective organization and time management effective communication and teamwork
Provides demonstration of perioperative patient care through selection inspection and opening of surgical supplies and equipment in timely manner according to age specific concerns for children adolescents adults and older adults and physicians preference list
Demonstrated Creates and maintains sterile field with essential surgical supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure in timely functional and organized manner
Performs sponge sharps and formal and inventory instrument counts at proper count intervals according to hospital policy and procedures
Performs surgical hand scrubs and gowns and gloves self and others
Cleans and prepares surgical instruments for terminal sterilization
Completes written lab and clinical performance evaluation form in timely manner of students
Certified Surgical Technologist BLS certification
Demonstrate competency with use of technology that supports learning and teaching; Maintains a flexible schedule including availability for evening weekend or summer assignment as appropriate

Preferred Skills knowledge and certifications or licenses

Preferred prior Teaching experience in the surgical technology field
Bachelors degree in allied health
Miimum of (5) years of experience in the operating room
Ability to lecture on content regarding various surgical procedures
Organize and prioritize perioperative tasks based on identified need
Demonstrates competency to operate surgical instruments supplies and equipment
Demonstrates proficiency and independence
Demonstrates Passing of surgical instruments and anticipates surgeons needs during surgical procedure during student lab experiences
Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician as authorized by the CBSPD/IAHCSMM


Education and Experience

Associates Degree in Surgical Technology graduate from a program accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency (*ARC/STSA accreditation requirement)
Have a minimum of two years experience in the OR scrub role or as an instructor in Surgical Technology
