ACCOUNTANT I Business Services

Classification: Classified 260 day calendar

Reports to: Controller

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Employee

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Accountant I position supports the Business Services department by performing entry to intermediate level accounting tasks related to accounts payable accounts receivable cash receipting and general ledger support. Duties include processing and verifying financial documents assisting with reconciliations supporting payroll functions maintaining accurate records and ensuring transactions comply with established policies and procedures.

Employees in this classification work under general supervision perform clearly defined tasks and receive guidance when new or unusual situations arise. Positions at this level are distinguished by developing knowledge of accounting practices and procedures and exercising sound judgment while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. High School Diploma or equivalent work experience and/or professional certifications.

2. Higher education coursework or experience in accounting bookkeeping or business administration preferred.

3. Knowledge of accounting methods practices local budget law Medicaid billing processes Federal and State laws related to payroll and terminology used in finance and fund accounting.

4. Working knowledge of GAAP and GASB.

5. Proficient with and able to accurately input information into computer systems using various programs. (i.e. Excel Word Infinite Visions/School ERP Pro)

6. Effective written and verbal communication skills.

7. Ability to collaborate positively with coworkers district personnel vendors and the public.

8. Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with state and federal laws (HIPAA FERPA ORS OARs etc.).

7. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution.

8. Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines attending meetings and following schedules.

9. Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators students and district staff as directed.

10. Ability to lift carry at least 25 pounds.

11. Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.

12. Work independently as well as collaborate with others to complete tasks solve problems in a positive manner and communicate in an effective courteous tactful and professional manner.

13. Maintain a high level of knowledge of accounting software and work to learn software where proficiency is needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities skills and duties associated with this position but is indicative of general expectations. The supervisor of this position may modify this list at any time its deemed necessary.

1. Completes a high volume of computer data entry work including invoice verification entry and payment generation. Ensures speed and accuracy in an environment that may include distractions and/or interruptions.

2. Completes accounts receivable tasks including preparation of contracts and invoices cash receipting and collections.

3. Performs monthly reconciliations that may include but not limited to fixed assets accounts receivable accounts payable liability accounts procurement cards and cash bank accounts.

4. Supports audits by preparing schedules working papers and other materials as directed.

5. Creates and uploads or enters journal entries consistent with fund accounting principles.

6. Troubleshoot basic accounting discrepancies and escalate issues as necessary.

7. Prepare basic spreadsheets to calculate and analyze financial data.

8. Maintaindetailed accounting records for grant funds and other special revenue funds.

9. Respond to questions from internal staff vendors and constituent districts with professionalism and clarity

10. Assist in other areas as needed including payroll grants or any other tasks.

11. Completes special projects as assigned.

SALARY AND BENEFIT INFORMATION

  • Salary and benefit information shown are based on full-time employment (1.0 FTE) based on the current school year
  • Placement on the Linn Benton Lincoln ESD Classified salary schedule will be commensurate with applicants qualifications relevant training and experience
  • Linn Benton Lincoln ESD will provide an Insurance CAP to assist with health dental and vision insurance premiums
  • Employer paid PERS holidays sick leave and personal days are also provided
  • Employer paid Life Insurance 1 x annual salary
  • Employer paid Basic AD&D and Long Term Disability
