Historic Preservation Administrator

This Request for Proposals is for an administrative consultant to help organize and support the work of the Teton County Historic Preservation Board.


The Teton County Historic Preservation Board is a Certified Local Government (CLG). Our goal is to develop and maintain local programs that preserve a sense of time and place through historic properties.


The board meets this goal by promoting local preservation through public outreach advising town and county officials on preservation related issues and working with the State Historic Preservation Office. TCHPB is a volunteer board appointed by the Teton County Commissioners.


Mission
The Teton County Historic Preservation Board exists to identify protect and preserve Teton Countys architectural and archaeological heritage to ensure respectful planning and development that preserves our sense of place and community character.


Vision Statement
The TCHPB envisions a community where historic properties exist in concert with new development. Community members and local government recognize the value and power of historic preservation and implement effective preservation policies and practices.
The Board convenes monthly public meetings to review current and future opportunities for historic preservation in the County.


Estimated Time Commitment: 10-20 hours a week


Fee: Based on qualifications and experience for a one-year period.


Tasks:

  • Communicating effectively with the Board and providing in a timely organized and accurate manner all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Facilitate monthly Historic Preservation Commission meetings and attend Town Council and County Commissioners meetings as needed
  • Prepare meeting agendas for monthly Board meetings. Post upcoming agendas and minutes to the Board website in advance of the next meeting.
  • Assist and support the Board in reviewing Town demolition applications and coordinate with the Historic Preservation Consultant to provide all necessary information for the Board to make a determination on significance.
  • Coordinate with Town Planning Department on applications to the Town Historic Register and Certificates of Appropriateness.
  • Provide administrative support for mailings meeting logistics and drafting letters and other documents.
  • Provide support for preservation awards and plaques.
  • Assist with any other jobs or duties as required by the Board including attending meetings advocacy and event planning.
  • Assists with clerical tasks such as filing correspondence with the public and respond to public inquiries.
  • Ensuring fiscal integrity of TCHPB to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization. Coordinate with County and Town financial staff to insure proper tracking of income and expenses.
  • Prepare and submit annual reports to the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).
  • Assist with submission of grant requests and identification of other resources necessary to support TCHPB mission.
  • Coordinate website management and content updating including social media posts.
  • Coordinate with County GIS department for management of data and additions to Town Historic Register and County List of Historically Significant Properties.


Desired Educational Background: A minimum of bachelors degree from a Historic Preservation Program architecture urban planning or in a related field.


Required Experience:

  • Relevant interest and experience working with the standards of historic properties architecture urban planning history and historic preservation.
  • Experience with administration and organization of a non-profit organization or government body
  • Knowledge of historical architectural features property easements preservations a plus.


Essential Skills:

  • Excellent oral written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the missions and philosophy of the TCHPB.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with board members County and Town staff and the general public.
  • Must be able to work independently muti-task and troubleshoot
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
