We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Staff Nurse HDU to join our dedicated multidisciplinary team in a leading Dublin hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Work in accordance with hospital policies procedures legal requirements NMBI standards and professional guidelines.

  • Deliver safe effective and efficient nursing care through comprehensive planning implementation and evaluation from admission to discharge.

  • Complete nursing assessments care plans and all other required documentation accurately and on time.

  • Communicate relevant patient information clearlyboth verbally and in writingto nursing medical and allied health staff.

  • Liaise and collaborate effectively with other departments while maintaining strong interpersonal communication.

  • Ensure all patient documentation is accurate confidential and completed using approved abbreviations in accordance with hospital policy.

  • Comply with medication policies ensuring proper handling safekeeping and documentation of scheduled drugs.

  • Respond promptly calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

  • Provide care independently with minimal supervision and assume responsibility for the department in the absence of the CNM II.

  • Use sound judgement in patient care decisions referring appropriately to the CNM II medical staff or other disciplines.

  • Follow established reporting and escalation pathways by consulting the CNM II first regarding concerns or issues.

  • Manage stock control to ensure adequate supplies are available at all times.

  • Support and mentor student nurses newly appointed staff nurses and healthcare assistants.

  • Contribute to best nursing practice by identifying recurring issues and supporting the implementation of evidence-based improvements.

  • Participate in hospital accreditation initiatives including assisting with required data collection.

  • Deputise for CNMs as required including planning and delegating staff workloads based on departmental needs.

  • Report all adverse incidents or concerns regarding patients or staff to the CNM/Director of Nursing and document them according to hospital policy.

  • Take part in the hospitals Performance Review and Development process.

  • Monitor and report issues that:

    • Do not meet accepted standards or

    • Could hinder efficient operations or negatively impact the hospitals reputation.

  • Maintain up-to-date personal education records and participate in continuing professional development.

  • Ensure efficient and responsible use of hospital resources at all times.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Clinical Nurse Manager.

  • Complete High Dependency Unit (HDU) Competency Assessment.



  • Requirements

  • Must be a Registered General Nurse on the current NMBI live register.

  • A minimum of one years relevant clinical experience is required.

  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team is essential.

  • IT skills are desirable.

  • A recognised ITU CCU cardiac telemetry or HDU course is desirable but not mandatory.

  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.

  • Required Skills:

    IT skills are desirable. Ability to care for high-acuity patients requiring close monitoring Proficiency in continuous cardiac and haemodynamic monitoring Skilled in respiratory assessment oxygen therapy and airway management Competence in administering IV medications and managing infusions Experience with central lines arterial lines and invasive monitoring (where applicable) Ability to interpret ECGs and recognise clinical deterioration promptly Strong understanding of HDU protocols escalation pathways and emergency care


    Required Education:

    Must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). A recognised ITU CCU cardiac telemetry or HDU course is desirable but not mandatory. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
