Job Summary

Adventure Specialist
Location:Winston-Salem NC on-site
Schedule:Part Time minimum 10 hours per week March - December (PRN December - February)

As an Adventure Specialist youll help fulfill the mission of Miracle Heights Adventures (MHA) by creating experiences that build resilience trust connection and confidence in children families staff teams and community groups.

Your work directly supports The Way to Hope and Healing by helping people learn to take healthy risks communicate effectively and grow together. Through ropes course facilitation adventure-based learning team-building programming and essential behind-the-scenes coordination the Adventure Specialist plays a key role in nurturing safety belonging and wellbeing.

Hiring Range:$18.50 to $21.00/hour
Education/Experience:
  • Current certification or documentation of training to facilitate groups on low and high elements or willingness to be trained.
  • Previous administrative work experience preferred.
  • Previous work experience as a guide/facilitator.
  • Current certification in CPR/First Aid and ACCT Level II Practitioner Certification or ability to obtain during introductory period.
Skills/Competencies:
Technical Competencies
  • Strong understanding of group dynamics and facilitation methods
  • Safety and rescue training; CPR/First Aid certification
  • Knowledge of adventure learning philosophy and outcomes
  • Experience with low ropes high ropes aerial adventure courses or similar equipment
  • Ability to operate inspect and maintain adventure-program infrastructure
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Ability to learn scheduling/program-management software
  • Strong documentation and data-management skills (Excel/Google Sheets)
  • Accurate use of forms incident reporting and tracking tools
  • Valid Drivers License; willingness to travel to partner sites

Job Duties:
Team-Building & Facilitation
  • Coordinate and provide lead facilitation for team-building on the low ropes Aerial Teams Course and Aerial Adventure Park.
  • Facilitate off-site team-building sessions at partner venues (both lead and assist roles).
  • Assist with designing and delivering experiential and adventure-based Discover Scholarship programs for Crossnore children and families.
  • Setup run and debrief a variety of ground-based activities and initiatives.
  • Provide culturally responsive facilitation for diverse groups and participants.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of group development models and processing techniques to support effective debriefing.
Ropes Course Facilitation (as assigned)
  • Set up and operate low and high ropes course elements.
  • Explain safety gear; assist guests with proper harness and equipment setup.
  • Provide instructions on safe use of course equipment.
  • Monitor participant safety on and around the course including entrances and exits.
  • Communicate with the guide team and group leaders to support smooth programming.
  • Facilitate group briefing debriefing and processing conversations.
  • Follow all safety procedures and Local Operating Procedures.
  • Make safe skilled decisionsoften under pressureduring rescues or unexpected incidents.
  • Administrative Support & Client Coordination
  • Communicate weekly with prospective clients; conduct needs assessments; prepare program proposals (no more than five pending clients at once).
  • Maintain accurate program records tracking sheets schedules and paperwork.
  • Complete incident reports and required documentation promptly.
  • Support scheduling logistics and communication for MHA programming.
Maintenance & Operational Support
  • Assist the Manager of Miracle Heights Adventures with ongoing equipment maintenance and periodic infrastructure inspections.
  • Prepare program supplies inspect gear and maintain safe program spaces.
Mission Support
  • Represent MHA with professionalism warmth and trauma-informed care.
  • Contribute to an organizational culture rooted in safety wellbeing and belonging.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job the employee will be subjected to outside conditions including weather and insects. There is occasionally exposure to fumes or airborne particles and harsh chemicals. Noise level in the workplace is usually moderate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Heavy
  • Position involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent ability to reach with hands arms and fingers to handle or free objects using tools or controls.
  • Frequently required to climb balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl.
  • Ability to spend long periods of time standing bending stooping and walking around the facility.
  • Visual ability including distance peripheral and depth perception.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Able to climb stairs repeatedly.
  • The physical ability to work at heights up to 40 for extended periods of time.
  • The physical ability to tolerate required personal protective equipment such as closed-toe shoes work gloves ear protection dust masks safety belts and safety shoes on a continuous basis.
