Rio Tinto Iron Ores Operations Excellence team covering the Pilbara region of Western Australia is looking to recruit an experienced Specialist Business Improvement to drive innovation and site initiatives to deliver additional sustained value in accordance with company safety environmental and statutory requirements.

The Operational Excellence team works across a diverse portfolio including Improvement Projects Continuous Improvement Change Management Capital Risk and the Management Operating System.

Reporting to thePrincipal Business Improvement key responsibilities for the position will be:

  • Facilitating and leading high value projects across site using recognised Business Improvement methodologies
  • Coaching and influencing project owners and site leaders to deliver results quickly and with maximum value
  • Interpreting costs and production drivers to inform strategic thinking and the evaluation and prioritisation of initiatives
  • Undertaking KPI analysis improvements and project work designed to identify opportunities to add business value
  • Assisting to mature our Safe Production System practices.
  • Creating a site culture of sustainable improvement.

This permanent position will be offered on a fly in fly out roster working 5 days on 2 days off 4 days on 3 days off flying out of Perth Western Australia.

This position will suit a Perth resident or someone willing to relocate to Perth on a permanent basis. Full and unrestricted rights to work in Australia is a requirement for this position.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position you will have:

  • Proven capability using business improvement processes within mining manufacturing or heavy industry
  • Experience leading project teams providing structure and motivation to deliver on commitments
  • Strong experience leading Kaizen and continuous improvement projects with measurable outcomes
  • Workshop facilitation skills that engage teams and drive ownership of improvement outcomes
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills with the ability to analyse present and communicate data effectively
  • A confident interpersonal and communication style with experience working collaboratively across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Proven ability to communicate new ideas and influence others
  • A current C Class manual drivers licence

Desirable Attributes

The following will be highly regarded:

  • Operational leadership experience
  • A tertiary qualification in Commerce Engineering or a related discipline
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (ideally Black Belt) and/or a recognised Business Improvement qualification
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and iterative improvement frameworks
  • Ability to develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and performance metrics to support decision-making
  • Experience supporting digital transformation or automation initiatives within operational environments
  • Exposure to working within large complex organisations and navigating multiple stakeholder priorities

In the Pilbara region of Western Australia we own a world-class integrated network of 17 mines four independent port terminals a rail network spanning nearly 2000 kilometres and related infrastructure all designed to respond rapidly to changes in demand. We are one of the worlds leading producers and exporters of iron ore.
