Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Four (4) years of experience as a mechanic including experience in supervising automotive mechanics.
- Valid Florida drivers license.
- Valid Florida commercial drivers license (CDL):
- Class B;
- School bus endorsement (S);
- Passenger vehicle endorsement (P);
- Air brakes endorsement;
- Tank vehicle endorsement (N);
- Hazardous materials endorsement (H).
- Valid Florida certification as a school bus inspector or the ability to obtain.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree from an accredited institution.
- Six (6) years of experience as a mechanic including experience in supervising automotive mechanics.
- Experience managing business/department functions and staff.
Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy minimum qualifications.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Clear and concise oral and written communication skills; organizational and management skills.
- Knowledge of pertinent regulations policies and procedures for the functional area of assignment.
- Knowledge of HIPAA Public Records Sunshine Law FERPA and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy public information and records retention.
- Knowledge of and experience with industry-standard equipment materials practices computers and applications.
- Ability to assist and coordinate personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
- Ability to professionally and effectively respond to customer needs and requests for service or assistance.
- Ability to perform a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of and proficiency in automotive mechanical repair.
- Ability to follow vehicle manufacturers service manuals.
- Ability to comply with the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse requirements.

Responsibilities
- Supervise the repair of District automotive and various mechanical equipment.
- Approve and coordinate work orders for garage operations.
- Diagnose automotive defects and schedule repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Establish and maintain an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventive care.
- Establish and supervise an inventory control system for parts and supplies.
- Assign supervise inspect and approve final automotive repairs of mechanics in the overhaul and repair of District automotive equipment.
- Repair and overhaul automobiles buses trucks and other equipment both light and heavy.
- Rebuild the mechanical electrical and hydraulic automotive equipment when needed.
- Assist in the recruitment screening training and evaluation of garage employees.
- Practice and promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work-related areas.
- Verify time cards of employees assigned to the location.
- Comply with and ensure that all subordinate personnel comply with all Transportation Services/Maintenance Services directives and policies School Board policies and regulations of the State Board of Education.
- Work with mechanics to ensure quality control.
- Perform required vehicle safety inspections when needed.
- Transport fuel and operate service vehicles to provide emergency road service work to school buses and other vehicles and equipment when needed.
- Register with the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
- Maintain driver and CDL licensure and required endorsements.
