BBC Yorkshire is looking for a Weather Presenter to work in Leeds on regional output for northern England and sometimes across the UK.
Your job will be to provide timely and accurate weather forecasts for breakfast audiences on BBC local radio TV Online and Social. Youll work across 5 days on a mixture of early shifts and weekends.
It is a demanding role that starts at 4am on a weekday. You will be required to quickly get up to speed by analysing weather charts and observations. Although you will work in Leeds forecast scripts and information will be provided from a team of forecasters in London. You will broadcast live on local radio stations and television and the role involves building on-air relationships showing your personality and being part of a programme team.
Knowledge of weather and meteorology is desirable but not essential; training will be provided both in forecasting and on the weather graphics system that you will use for broadcasts on TV. You will need to build a wider knowledge of weather patterns and climate change and be able to analyse and communicate how these issues affect peoples lives.
With its diverse communities rural landscape and urban deprivation we want to recruit a journalist who can reflect the audiences we serve. You need to understand what matters to the different communities across the North from big cities like Leeds Sheffield and Bradford to rural residents on the coasts and in the national parks of North Yorkshire as well as those who follow us on Facebook Twitter and Instagram. You will be based in Leeds but may be asked on occasions to work in the field.
