Job Summary

The Department of Nursing intends to hire for one position at either the Psychiatric Nursing Assistant I classification requisition # or Psychiatric Nursing Assistant II classification requisition # based on the qualifications of the successful candidate.

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry:
John Pappajohn Pavillion (1 JPW) is a 15-bed inpatient unit dedicated to child and adolescent (3-17 years old) psychiatry services. This unit patient population includes depression anxiety eating disorder intellectual disability substance abuse and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The unit provides structured therapy including Dialectal Behavioral Therapy. Unique unit design features Circle School playground and gym to improve patient experience and outcomes.

Aptitudes required in order to perform responsibilities:

  • Work in an environment with conflicting demands and/or priorities and rushed and/or urgent timelines

  • Manage multiple assignments and provide quick reaction and immediate response to emergencies

  • Maintain attention to detail over extended period of time and continually be aware of variations in changing situations

  • Strong communication skills and a tolerance for an active work environment with potential for negative behavior

  • Work well with all levels and types of people

Percent of Time:50%
Schedule:20hours per week rotating shifts every other weekend and rotating holidays

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • One year experience as a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant I or in a like position.
  • Satisfactory completion of the established Psychiatric Nursing Assistant Training Program or an equivalent program.
