PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Volunteer Specialist is the first point of contact for hundreds of North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) supporters each day. This role effectively utilizes and directs volunteers to support and expand the work of the operations programs fundraising and marketing functions to meet company goals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook Word Excel) and internet software
- Working knowledge of donor databases a plus
- Ability to prioritize and handle simultaneous assignments in a fast-paced environment
- Skilled public speaker and comfortable giving verbal instructions to groups of all sizes and ages
- Must be customer-centric for both internal and external customers
- Excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication
Experience:
- Two years in volunteer recruitment or coordination
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act as a service coordinator for volunteers and works closely with production staff
- Utilize various websites and databases to quickly and accurately gather information scheduling update volunteer records post event information promote volunteer opportunities and prepare reports
- Oversee the Volunteer Kernel Program including recruiting training and on-going management
- Manage the Canned Food Drive program inclusive of marketing and logistical support and reporting
- Contribute to the success of the volunteer experience program by ensuring opportunities are safe productive and memorable
- Welcome conduct orientation and serve as a host for up to 250 volunteers during shifts
- Schedule and manage the volunteers for all signature events and other off-site opportunities as requested
- Arrange the transportation and pick up of volunteer materials or equipment
- Accept donations and payments gather estimates make purchases and complete necessary paperwork
- Maintain a high level of customer service when responding to inquiries or issues as well as relay information to appropriate staff if unable to personally resolve problems
- Take pictures interview volunteers and record videos to promote the experience and to highlight members of the community
- Ensure the volunteer areas are tidy stocked with merchandise festive and updated with current messaging
- Present a positive image as a representative of the North Texas Food Bank during speaking engagements community events tours and meetings
- Cultivate relationships with volunteers community service directors key stakeholders partners and donors
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned

- The person in this position needs to adapt well in the face of work stressors such as customer service complaints maintaining the security of people and property compliance offenses meeting deadlines and competing programmatic priorities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand sit use hands to handle or feel objects tools or controls reach with hands and arms climb stairs balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl talk or hear.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Participate in physical tasks including but not limited to lifting boxes pushing carts loading vehicles standing for long periods of time moving tables etc.
- Employee must exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
- Moderate to loud noise (e.g. light traffic business office with open floor plan with computers phone and printers and medium to heavy traffic in the warehouse with forklifts and pallet jacks)
- This position occasionally works outdoors; therefore will be exposed to seasonal weather temperatures.
