Job Summary

The Position

TheEducational Services Division is now accepting applications for Environmental Education Garden Specialist.

The Environmental Education Garden Specialist maintains and designs the garden space to prepare and implement lessons for science and environmental education activities. Performs and coordinates a variety of related duties for an effective outdoor learning environment; provides responsible instructional and operational assistance to assigned teachers/students/volunteers in implementing the educational and social objectives of assigned programs.

This position has a work year of11 months 193 days 7 hours per day.

This is a specially funded position that is subject to annual approval and renewal by the LEA Collaborative.


This position will support ourSpecial Education Department and will assist children and students with severe or low-incidence disabilities.We currently serve 50 Special Education classrooms from San Jose to South County and thisposition will visit and support these sites.

Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to:
Education/ Experience: Four years in the natural sciences environmental sciences or a related field.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid first aid certificate and a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate
  • A valid California Drivers License
  • A driving record that meets the insurance requirements of the County Office of Education

EXAMINATION PROCEDURES

  • Assessments and interviews may take place virtually or in-person.
  • Following the final filing date the qualifications of all candidates will be evaluated.
  • Themost qualified candidateswill be invited to participatein a written exam tentatively scheduled forTBD.
  • Those who pass the written exam will be invited to participate in an oral examination with subject matter experts tentatively scheduled for TBD.
  • Based on the final scores of qualified candidates Classified Personnel Services will establish a ranked candidate list.
  • Selected candidates from the list will be invited to a second interview with the hiring authorities tentatively scheduled for TBD.
  • Second interviews may be held in-person.
  • Candidates will be invited over email to participate in examination and selection steps using the email supplied within their applications or as updated by candidates in their master it is recommended that candidates check their email at least daily.

NOTE: Examination procedures are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Director - Classified Personnel Services. Candidates who test successfully for placement on the eligibility list may be certified to other related positions without further testing requirements OR job posting announcements.
