At the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible delivering novel solutions to sponsors like NASA the Department of Defense and industry. The UDRI Space & Power System Office is pioneering the next generation of power technologies enabling sustainable resilient high-efficiency solutions for terrestrial aerospace and advanced space-based operations. Were seeking an experienced Project Engineer to provide hands-on technical leadership and drive multiple projects supporting aircraft ground equipment vehicle sustainment and new product development. Under the guidance of a senior engineer youll lead and contribute directly to research evaluation reverse engineering design testing/validation and technology transition for critical hardware across aerospace defense and commercial industries. This position also manages the National Aviation Electric Power Innovation Center (NAEPIC) laboratory and provides subject matter expertise for NAEPIC-related projects. What Youll Do: Lead small focused engineering teams from concept through completion. Collaborate with client hardware owners to identify and document equipment end items and components supporting Lifecycle Management (LCM) Service Life Extension Programs (SLEP) and Digital Engineering (DigEng) initiatives. Partner with product development leaders to shape new consumer and industrial products. Develop work breakdown structures for complex poorly defined problems. Design & optimize mechanical components for traditional and additive manufacturing (housings brackets structural supports aerospace hardware vehicle parts) in compliance with GD&T standards. Plan & execute component and system-level validation/qualification testing analyzing results to ensure performance and reliability. Work closely with hardware engineers to ensure product conformance with design intent and customer requirements. What Were Looking For: A self-starter who thrives in fast-moving technical environments. An excellent communicator with a proven record of leading projects to successful completion. A strong background in systems engineering and technical project leadership. The ability to support multiple clients and projects simultaneously. |

| Minimum Qualifications: | B.S. in Engineering (Aerospace Electrical Mechanical) or 7 years of offsetting experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a related position Self-starter who thrives on solving technical problems and leading small teams Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to maintain focus in ambiguous situations Proven experience in customer capture and management Proven ability to provide and follow instructions while demonstrating precision and attention to detail Successful track record of collaboration within multidisciplinary teams Ability to create read and interpret models technical drawings schematics and reports. Proficient in 3D CAD modeling software. Strong understanding of complex electromechanical system design and operation Customer-focused mindset with a history of achieving customer satisfaction Effective interpersonal and written communication skills demonstrated across all levels of an organization Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook PowerPoint Excel) Coding and scripting experience (e.g. LabVIEW Java MATLAB Python etc.) Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance. |
