Job Summary

The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museums collections and collaborates with other museums in research exhibitions education and public programmes. The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museums collections of paintings calligraphy antiquities and historical objects as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations.

Reporting to the Museum Director the Deputy Director Collection and Learning is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of collection conservation learning digital development and cultural exchange at the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM). This leadership role requires a dynamic and visionary individual who can ensure the museum fulfils its mission of preserving and promoting Chinese art while fostering learning community engagement and cultural exchange and embracing innovation in the digital age.

You will be responsible for:

1. Collection and Conservation Management:
Develop and implement strategies for the development and management of the museums fast-growing collection with world-class special holdings of Chinese gold ornaments textiles and painting items ensuring alignment with international best practices.
Supervise the acquisition cataloguing digitization and care of artifacts and artworks while maintaining their historical and cultural integrity.
Lead the new initiative to establish the Chinese Art Conservation Centre in HKPM with scholarly educational and international partnership programmes.
2. Learning and Engagement:
Oversee the creation and delivery of educational programs exhibitions and workshops that inspire diverse audiences and promote lifelong learning.
Ensure that museum initiatives are inclusive and accessible to the community with an emphasis on engaging youth and underrepresented groups.
Support partnerships with schools universities and cultural organizations to expand educational opportunities.
3. Cultural Exchange:
Lead efforts to establish and strengthen collaborations with domestic and international cultural institutions fostering engaging exchanges and shared learning.
Organize cultural events and programs that celebrate and explore the richness of Chinese art and history while building dialogues and bridges among world cultures.
Advocate for the museum as a hub of cultural diplomacy and dialogue.
4. Digital Development:
Drive the building of a smart museum with the application of digital technologies and artificial intelligence to enhance exhibit interpretation visitor experiences and venue operations.
Oversee the digitization of the museums collection to increase accessibility and engagement worldwide.
Promote innovative digital strategies to connect with new audiences and maintain the museums relevance in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
5. Performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by HKPM

You should possess:

Advanced degree in Fine Arts History Archaeology Museum Studies Conservation or a related field.
At least 20-year relevant experience in which extensive experience in museum management collection conservation education or curatorial programming.
Proven track record of leadership and project management in museums with an ability to inspire and motivate teams.
Strong understanding of Chinese art and history coupled with a global perspective.
Good communication skills both oral and written in Chinese and English.
Familiarity with emerging digital technologies and their applications in the museum sector.
