Huntsman Corporation is now looking for a dynamic individual as a Research Scientist - Elastomers.

The India R&D team is part of the Global Technology & Innovation team. The India R&D team is tasked with developing new technology platforms for the global Polyurethane business.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in polymer science with expertise in elastomeric materials structureproperty correlation and hands-on experience in prototyping and characterization.

This role involves developing and prototyping novel elastomeric formulations for targeted applications across industries.

This position will be based in Mumbai India.

As a Research Scientist - Elastomers you will:

Ensure full compliance with safety health and environmental guidelines according to site and company standards in all areas of responsibility including laboratory facilities and testing equipment. Promote safety according to the above guidelines.

Design and develop elastomeric formulations for differentiated polyurethane technologies.

Conduct mechanical thermal and chemical characterization of elastomers to validate performance and durability.

Utilize advanced analytical techniques to understand polymer morphology and its impact on macroscopic properties.

Hands-on experience with rheology DMA TGA DSC FTIR and other polymer characterization tools.

Drive innovation through exploratory research and ideation workshops. Should have understanding of different stages of product development from ideation to commercialization.

Monitor global trends and competitor activities in polyurethane technologies.

Experience in process development cost optimization scale up and technology transfer from lab scale to pilot scale.

Provide consultancy and support to ISC business teams and advise on the resolution of relevant non-routine technical problems.

Design agree plan and independently carry out non-routine innovative experimental programs and specify the timing and resource needs.

Communicate the outputs conclusions and recommendations to the project stakeholders to provide a technical basis for strategic decisions.

Apply knowledge to create ideas and to propose development programs for innovation in the fields of polymer science targeted at achieving competitive advantage thereby contributing to strategic business development opportunities.

Keep abreast of relevant competitive IP literature to direct own research and to develop a strategically aligned intellectual property portfolio in the field of polyurethane chemistry and write appropriate invention reports.

What skills and experiences are we looking for

Candidate should hold a Doctorate (Ph.D.) with specialist knowledge in the field of molecular design more specifically synthesis or polymer chemistry.

A first working experience around the topic of elastomers & know-how of structure-property correlation would be a distinct advantage.

The job holder has at least 5 years of experience ideally within a chemical R&D or manufacturing environment with a preference for the polyurethane industry.

Highly innovative and willing to take initiative to tackle complex technical challenges.

Good communication skills and fluency in English. Other languages are an asset.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to coach others.

Strong project leadership and cross-cultural collaboration skills.

Willing to travel globally.
