The Senior Accounting Manager oversees all core accounting functions ensuring accuracy compliance with relevant accounting standards and strong financial practices across the organization. This role supervises accounting staff guides the implementation of policies and procedures manages audits and serves as a financial resource to organizational leadership. Additionally the Senior Accounting Manager safeguards the integrity of financial data supports informed decision-making and promotes ongoing improvement of financial processes and systems. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about personal & professional development & obsessed with automation & new technologies to streamline operations and implement process improvements.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage all accounting operations including general ledger activities fund or program accounting and financial reporting.
- Supervise coach and develop members of the accounting team.
- Oversee the implementation and consistent application of accounting policies and procedures.
- Direct month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial results.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and variance reports for internal stakeholders.
- Maintain an organized and adaptable Chart of Accounts aligned with organizational needs.
- Oversee bank reconciliations ensuring accuracy and effective risk management.
- Manage the preparation and submission of budgets billings and required financial reporting for grants or funding sources.
- Coordinate with internal departments to ensure compliant accounting reporting and release of restricted or unrestricted funds as applicable.
- Lead the annual audit process including preparation of supporting schedules and communication with external auditors.
- Identify opportunities for automation efficiency and process improvements across financial systems.
- Assist with budgeting forecasting and financial modeling to support strategic planning.
- Provide training and onboarding for accounting staff to ensure adherence to organizational standards.
- Offer financial insights and recommendations to leadership to support operational efficiency and informed decision-making.
- Model professional and collaborative behavior in all interactions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors degree in Accounting
- Masters degree a Plus
- 5 years of progressive Accounting experience.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excel Power-User
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Solid understanding of Fund Accounting
- Knowledge of GAAP & FASB rules and regulatory standards.
- Ability to plan organize and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to solve complex problems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively across the organization.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Occasional travel between sites or business locations may be required.
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment during training 5 days per week & will move to a hybrid work environment after 60-90 days to include 3 days onsite & 2 days remote.
