Birmingham City Council is seeking a strategic and experienced professional to lead its Fleet Plant & Assets service within the Street Scene Division. This is a pivotal role responsible for shaping and delivering a sustainable fleet strategy that supports the Councils operational and environmental goals.

What youll do...

  • Provide Strategic Leadership for the Fleet & Transport dept
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fleet strategy covering capital acquisition asset management and maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with traffic regulations and maintain the Councils operators license.
  • Lead strategic fleet procurement aligned with long-term sustainability goals.
  • Manage capital budgets for fleet replacement and explore carbon reduction and sustainable fuel solutions.
  • Establish performance metrics to evaluate procurement effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee fleet maintenance schedules and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders including regulatory bodies and suppliers.
  • Monitor and manage fleet-related budgets ensuring cost-effective and efficient operations.
  • Budget Holder for fleet department
  • Work closely with wider BCC fleet

What youll need...

  • Exceptional Communication skills at all levels of a complex organisation
  • Experience of working in Dynamic organisations
  • Degree or professional certification in fleet management logistics or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in fleet and asset operations including procurement and compliance.
  • Proven track record in budget management and strategic planning.
  • Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and navigate regulatory frameworks.
  • Commitment to sustainability and innovation in fleet management.
