Dominican offers emergency services and is a Certified Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center. Dominicans services include the only comprehensive Cancer Center in Santa Cruz County a Total Joint Replacement program and advanced neurological and endoscopic services. Dominican regularly receives A grades for hospital safety from Leapfrog Group and has received national recognition for superior patient safety cardiac care and stroke treatment from Healthgrades a leading provider of comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.
As Santa Cruz Countys heart attack (STEMI) receiving center Dominican Hospital provides cutting edge cardiac care. The hospitals heart attack treatment times consistently beat the national average and the hospital offers two cardiac catheterization labs available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Groundbreaking cardiac procedures at Dominican include the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure which allows for heart valve replacement without opening a patients chest.
Dominican Hospital has forged significant partnerships with area hospitals to bring exceptional care to Santa Cruz County. The hospital offers a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through a partnership with Lucile Packard Childrens Hospital Stanford. Neurosurgery at Dominican is also offered through a partnership with Stanford Health Care.
Job Summary and Responsibilities

- Clinical Practice & Case Management- Provides safe therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way. Incorporates differences into the provision of care. Integrates knowledge skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum to include patient and family education.
- Performs psychosocial/physiologic assessments that integrate changing data.
- Formulates a plan of care based on trends of similar patients including patient education and discharge planning. Collaborates with patients/families to identify realistic desired outcomes.
- Administers prescribed medications and intravenous solutions according to standards of care and hospital protocols.
- Assesses pain level in all patients using 0-10 Faces or other approved scale to promote comfort and enable patients to participate in their healing. Provides timely/appropriate assessment/intervention. Identifies comfort function goals with patients.
- Tailors and prioritizes caring practice to individual needs including cultural/ethical/spiritual needs. Participates in the planning of routine transitional health acre needs. (i.e. treatment options patient placement options end of life options). Adapts standards and guidelines for individual patients.
Job Requirements
- Associate Of Nursing Nursing Diploma At least one (1) year recent hospitalexperience in the Emergency Departmentor Critical Care upon hire and
- Registered Nurse: CA upon hire and
- Basic Life Support - CPR upon hire and
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support upon hire and
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support upon hire and
- Certified Stroke Registered Nurse within 90 Days and
Preferred
- Bachelors Of Nursing BSN upon hire
- Certified Emergency Nurse upon hire and
- Trauma Nurse Core Course upon hire
