JOB SUMMARY
The Avid Tutor supports student learning by providing academic assistance guidance and encouragement in a structured setting. The tutor assists individuals and small groups with lesson assignments homework and study skills to reinforce classroom instruction and promote student success. The AVID Tutor plays a key role in fostering a positive safe and supportive environment that encourages student growth and achievement.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to adapt to changing work priorities work as part of a team work with frequent interruptions and prioritize
- Able to roll push pull bend reach stoop and lift up to 30 pounds
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with students supervisors co-workers parents and other district employees
- Speak read write analyze and follow written and verbal communication in English; listen to and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
These are examples of skills and experience that the best-qualified candidates may having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.
- Prior tutoring experience in a K-12 setting
- Fluency in a language other than English
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to present and reinforce learning concepts
- Assist with homework assignments and make-up work etc. to support teachers in the instructional process
- Guide students in independent study (e.g. enrichment work remedial work etc.) to ensure student success
- Monitors individuals and groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom library college visits etc.) to ensure a safe and positive learning environment
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling copying attendance etc.) to support the teacher and administrator in providing records/materials
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
EMPLOYEE SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting carrying pushing and pulling up to 30 pounds some stooping kneeling crouching and crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting 40% walking and 20% standing. This job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a clean atmosphere. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
