The New Zealand Financial Intelligence Unit (NZFIU) is looking for a motivated Lead Intelligence Analyst who understands that money is the biggest driver of crime.

The NZFIU based at PNHQ are the recipient of suspicious activity information that is reported to us from the private financial sector. This position would suit an experienced Intelligence professional who can demonstrate professional curiosity and adaptive approaches to using a range of analytic tools and methodologies to provide hindsight insight and foresight on a range of complex problems and issues.

You will use your advanced critical thinking and team-focused approach to coach others on best practice Intelligence tradecraft to support team development and foster a positive and productive team culture.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Proactively identify emerging or escalating trends in financial related crime.
  • Lead and collaborate projects and group analysis.
  • Work with limited supervision on complex analytical problems.
  • Provide technical guidance in Intelligence analysis tools and coach junior members of the team to develop their Intelligence tradecraft.
  • Lead by example with a committed positive attitude towards teamwork and professional development.
  • Provide regular peer review and project coaching.
  • Assist in leading the development of people products and processes.
  • Champion diverse worldviews different perspectives and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi identifying opportunities to reflect these in Intelligence products.

  • You will be a Senior Intelligence analyst
  • Demonstrate strong critical thinking and apply analytical techniques to interpret information and data
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop a high standard of written reports/presentations and provide clear and concise verbal briefings appropriate to a range of audiences
  • Be able to manage competing priorities to deliver organisational priorities
  • Demonstrate a collaborative approach to delivering team outputs
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with a range of stakeholders to encourage collective effort and shared outcomes.

  • Current CPK at the rank of the vacancy you are applying for (Constabulary only).
  • For both Constabulary & Police Employees:
    • Agree to enrol in a leadership programme at the advertised level at a future date or
    • Have qualified under CEP or a previous Career Progression Framework at the level you are applying for.
  • Successful applicants must reside in Wellington or must be willing to relocate.
  • This role is office based within the specified location.

To be eligible for this role you may be asked to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance.

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:

NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years or:

  • A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years or
  • A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia Canada United Kingdom or United States of America and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu ā-tau Salary

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $110425 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
