Basic Functions and Responsibility
As a member of the Site S&E team work collaboratively to ensure that compliant environmental health and safety (EHS) programs are developed and implemented within operating departments at the Rahway and Kenilworth sites. Integrates EHS programs into daily operations to assure regulatory compliance achieves continuous performance improvement meeting EHS performance objectives. Partners with key stakeholders in research (labs and pilot plants) office and facility support to develop priorities to achieve these goals in alignment with site business priorities. Performs responsibilities and addresses challenges.
Primary Activities
With a deep knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations and their applicability supports business groups via the following:
Oversees water compliance program and permitting - wastewater potable water storm water and related environmental regulatory topics.
Supports R&D operations air compliance program including general permit conditions.
Supports waste compliance program including hazardous and nonhazardous classifications.
Verifies compliance with environmental regulations and permits. Ensures all required records reports notifications etc. are maintained prepared and/or submitted in accordance with established guidelines and/or regulatory deadlines.
Acts as POC for business areas and provides customer support. Recommends changes if compliance gaps are identified. Works with stakeholders to develop solutions to issues and to develop improvements. Track implementation.
Responsible for periodically reporting metrics to site and Company management on the effectiveness of the program implementation and changes or improvements being implemented.
Acts as the environmental point of contact for site projects (capital projects).
Participates in regulatory inspections and internal audit processes.
Remain current with all environmental regulations and as they apply to our industry. Identify the environmental requirements.
Works with company center of excellence for any compliance projects and issues regarding the environmental programs.
Completes work assignments and to achieve department goals/objectives.
Position Qualifications:
Education Minimum Requirement:
Bachelors Degree required concentration in EHS or related technical discipline preferred.
Required Experience and Skills:
3-5 years applied professional EHS work experience.
Advanced level of proficiency in the areas of EHS compliance environmental programs critical thinking and communication skills.
Basic level of skill with project management and problem solving.
Evidence of leadership effective communication and organizational skills required.
Demonstrated performance in a highly regulated industry with strict standards adherence and compliance initiatives.
Good root cause investigation experience desired.
Self-motivated proactive can-do attitude.
Ability to handle potentially stressful situations with a positive attitude.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
NJDEP permitting and environmental agency experience preferred.
Experience in a pharmaceutical chemical industry or utility environment a plus.
Professional certification such as CSP CIH CHMM PE or related

U.S. Hybrid Work Model
Effective September 5 2023 employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week Monday - Thursday although the specific days may vary by site or organization with Friday designated as a remote-working day unless business critical tasks require an on-site Hybrid work model does not apply to and daily in-person attendance is required for field-based positions; facility-based manufacturing-based or research-based positions where the work to be performed is located at a Company site; positions covered by a collective-bargaining agreement (unless the agreement provides for hybrid work); or any other position for which the Company has determined the job requirements cannot be reasonably met working remotely. The salary range for this role is
$77700.00 - $122300.00This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employees position within the salary range will be based on several factors including but not limited to relevant education qualifications certifications experience skills geographic location government requirements and business or organizational needs.
The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentive if applicable.
