The Systems Product Owner understands the companys various processes and value streams identifies problems that need to be solved or opportunities to act on manages product backlogs and works with technical teams to deliver features for customers that are aligned with corporate strategy. This position works closely with scrum teams and key stakeholders from various departments to identify projects or products that support key business objectives constructing a roadmap for these projects or products reporting on the status of each at regular intervals and ultimately ensuring the final product delivers the intended business value and meets customer expectations within the Scrum framework.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with Business Stakeholders Development and QA teams to ensure a clear and shared understanding of strategic project deliverables.
  • Use data and analytics to inform product direction whether in the form of backend service metrics customer usage customer behavior value stream mapping or other business metrics.
  • Primarily responsible for executing project management-related activities once a project has been approved with both internal and external parties.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining project-level roadmaps and backlogs.
  • Own and drive story/feature definition and priority based on defined initiatives.
  • Use task/story estimates and known dependencies to construct project schedule and when appropriate to project the anticipated completion date.
  • Represent the voice of the customer and provide a business perspective by informing agile teams of purpose significance and value of backlog item during day-to-day development.
  • Participate in initiatives that support the integration and adoption of AI/ML to enhance operational efficiency and drive revenue growth.
  • Subject matter expert for up to three (3) business process areas.
  • Champion Agile practices within the team ensuring adherence to processes and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Participate in external vendor tool vetting and drafting build vs buy business cases for non-enterprise level products or projects.
  • Familiar with basic project management financial-related reporting such as Internal Rate of Return (IRR) Return On Investment (ROI) and Time Value of Money (TVM).
  • Motivate the Scrum team while respecting their ownership of feature complexity estimation.
  • Research and analyze business problems to determine if systems solutions are advisable and available.
  • Analyze current business processes and make recommendations for improvement based on industry trends and professional business knowledge.
  • Participate in Scrum ceremonies including daily stand-ups and running sprint planning reviews and retrospectives.
  • Understand and evaluate technical trade-offs in product development balancing technical feasibility with user needs and business objectives. Facilitate discussions among technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure informed decision-making.
  • Act as a mediator in conflicts between stakeholders or team members using strong communication and negotiation skills to find common ground and drive consensus on product direction and priorities.
  • Contribute to the business architecture and technical approach of new initiatives to ensure long term compatibility with business goals and objectives
  • Liaison with QA/Testing team for test plan and testing activities. Ensure the test strategy and test plans adequately cover the requirements. Support the planning and execution of testing.
  • Continuously strive to improve understanding of requirements techniques processes and deliverables required to support successful project delivery. Embrace feedback and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Support multiple new initiatives along with ongoing system maintenance work.
  • Communicate ideas and viewpoints to senior management.
  • Conduct independent research.
  • Assist QA with Functional Systems testing.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Bachelors Degree or higher in Management Information Systems Computer Science Business Administration or related field required.


Equivalent experience may substitute for minimum educational requirements. Equivalent experience may include five (5) years of relevant experience.


EXPERIENCE

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in business systems/product analysis or equivalent role required. Minimum of five (5) years of experience developing and supporting business technology systems required. Experience with requirement gathering documentation and business process modeling required. Working knowledge of systems applications web technologies and architectures required.


Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with SQL and in Scrum and Agile frameworks preferred. Familiarity with programming languages preferred. Property and Casualty experience is a plus.


CERTIFICATIONS

Certified Scrum Product Owner Professional (CSPO) Professional Scrum Product Owner 1 (PSPO 1) Certification of Competency in Business Analysis (CCBA) Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or Project Management Professional (PMP) required.

Preferred work arrangement hybrid on-site but remote candidates will be considered based on qualifications and experience.
