Description

This position is responsible for all phases of the Womens Flag Football program including recruiting quality student-athletes monitoring the academic success of student-athletes game preparation and strategy supervising coaches scheduling enhancing public relations organizing camps and clinics fundraising budget adhering to NCAA and conference rules and regulations and other general administrative addition the Head Coach will be responsible for supporting the philosophy goals and mission of both the University and its intercollegiate athletics program. North Alabama is an NCAA Division I member that successfully competes in the ASUN/UAC Conferences.

Essential Job Duties

Teaching/Coaching (51%)

  • Instruct teach and coach student-athletes during practice and competitions;
  • Instruct student-athletes on developed systems/concepts as well as rules and fundamentals of the sport to develop and achieve personal and team goals;
  • Develop sport-specific systems and strategies with emphasis on tactical components;
  • Provide individual skill instruction supervision and motivation to student-athletes;
  • Assess performance and provide practical instructions to student-athletes;
  • Maintain a close working relationship with athletic trainers and strength/conditioning staff in regard to athletic injury treatment rehabilitation and prevention;
  • In coordination with strength and conditioning staff conduct conditioning programs that include methods of improving power speed strength and overall performance;
  • Conduct video analysis and instruction as a teaching and preparation tool for games and competitions;
  • Plan practices and/or competition strategy;
  • Responsible for game preparation and strategy;
Recruiting (30%)
  • Recruit quality student-athletes specifically related to the proforma;
  • Ensure academic success of student-athletes;
  • Maintain and use Teamworks (ARMs) software for recruiting as well as other required information and forms;
  • Maintain and monitor information required for NCAA-eligibility of each student-athlete while working closely with athletics compliance;
  • Retain current student-athletes as team members;
  • Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes with aspecific focus on student retention and graduation rates;
  • Ensure the program meets the annual squad size number;
  • Organize camps and clinics;
Administration (19%)
  • Supervise assistant coach(es) graduate assistant(s) and other personnel;
  • Maintain and enhance the financial proforma for Womens Flag Football to support team/departmental planning and decision-making;
  • Schedule games practices team meetings etc.;
  • Attend meetings with alumni and enhance public relations;
  • Attend required department and college meetings;
  • Fundraise for the athletics department and the individual sport;
  • Assist with completing and managing the program budget while staying within budget parameters and completing necessary business office pre-approval and expense documentation;
  • Maintain adherence to NCAA and conference rules and regulations;
  • Maintain effective working relationships within the athletic department and the university as a whole;
  • Complete and maintain all forms and records as required by Division I/NCAA Compliance;
  • Coordinate and manage all game travel;
  • Support the philosophy goals and mission of both the University and its intercollegiate athletics programs;
  • Work closely with divisional staff to manage thescheduling of practices and coordinate opponent scheduling;
  • Maintain a high graduation rate and APR to NCAA regulations;
  • Provide ongoing oversight of student-athletes conduct both on and off the court and assist with conflict resolution;
  • Assist with the development of positive interpersonal relationships including campus integration with other students and faculty;
  • Promote a positive program image;
  • Promote positive media and community relations;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Keep current regarding knowledge concerning issues affecting the athletic program including internal and external events discussions and concerns;
  • Participate in required trainings both upon hire and annually as required.

ATHLETICS ADDENDUM:
As the Head Coach for Womens Flag Football for the University of North Alabama you will be expected to comply with all NCAA and Conference rules and regulations and with the provisions of gender equity as specified by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. You are required to participate in an annual review of relevant Conference and NCAA rules and regulations governing your position responsibilities. You are expected to advise the Athletics Director if you are aware of any violation of NCAA/conference rules or regulations in the Universitys athletics program. Violation of NCAA/Conference rules or regulations shall subject you to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures and as required by Section 11.2 of the NCAA Manual. Further you may be terminated or disciplined for any act or omission that may give rise to a finding that the institution has violated an NCAA rule or regulation. You shall also be subject to disciplinary action for violation of any University rules policies regulations or the provisions of Title IX pursuant to the policies and procedures governing University staff employees.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelors degree is required;
  • Masters degree is preferred;
  • Fundraising experience preferred;
  • Experience working in a leadership role in a collaborative environment is preferred;
  • Strong working knowledge of the sports skills and training methods is required;

LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • A current valid drivers license is required;
  • CPR certification renewed annually is required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of NCAA D1 rules and regulations (as applicable in womens flag football);
  • Knowledge of collegiate womens flag football programs (all positions) and the ability to transfer that knowledge;
  • Knowledge of rules of collegiate womens flag football sport and competition strategies techniques and training methods;
  • Knowledge of principles practices and techniques of coaching;
  • Previous Coaching experience;
  • Proven ability to maintain high graduation rates / APR
  • Ability to effectively recruit and coach student-athletes while maintaining concern for health and welfare physical and psychological preparation;
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive effective relationships with student-athletes coaching staff administrators faculty staff parents and the public;
  • Organizational skills;
  • Ability to interact effectively both verbally and in written format with a diverse group of student-athletes staff faculty administrators parents and the public;
  • Ability to demonstrate respect for and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds;
  • Knowledge of and the ability to maintain compliance with NCAA conference and university rules regulations policies procedures and processes;
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment eligibility and related functions;
  • Ability to operate a PC and standard software programs as related to employment and position-specific activities;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other divisional staff coaches and administrators.
