Division of Facilities Management - Southern District
This work unit exists to plan design construct operate maintain and manage the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities and campuses according to all applicable standards in a manner that promotes the CDHS mission of providing a safe sanitary and effective environment for clients youth residents consumers and staff and enhances the quality of life in CDHS facilities and campuses and in the surrounding neighborhoods.
Facilities served are: Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP) Pueblo Regional Center (PRC) Division of Youth Services (Zeb Pike Spring Creek and Pueblo Youth Services Center) and the Veterans Community Living Centers in the Southern District. Total facilities served are approximately 2 million sq. ft. at multiple sites within the Southern Region. The unit establishes and maintains a pleasant safe and sanitary environment for clients personnel and visitors in the buildings of the Department of Human Services.
Description of Job
You are required to work at your assigned work location during your scheduled work times.

This position exists to support the continued operation of the physical plant to include irrigation systems maintenance and repair Maxicom system maintenance and roads and asphalt maintenance and repair. This position also exists to provide care of lawns shrubs flowers and trees within the guidelines of all regulatory state and federal requirements. Also provides assistance to other area departments i.e. demolition crew underground services such as steam lines electric lines water and sewer lines by digging shoring insulating backfilling and compacting.
Grounds Maintenance
- Apply horticultural skills and landscaping skills to trees shrubs and lawns by applying herbicides and/or pesticides according to federal and state regulations.
- Manicure and shape shrubs with electric trimmers.
- Display the natural beauty to the grounds by irrigating aerating fertilizing and preserving lawns trees and shrubs. Monitor and manage Maxicom irrigation and satellite systems.
- Operate lawn mowers tractors dump trucks snow plows trenchers and state vehicles.
- Prevent possible hazardous accidents to patients staff and visitors by removing ice snow debris and sand from parking lots walkways and door entrances.
- Monitor and repair slip trip and fall hazards relating to sidewalks pathways and building entrances. Assure proper disposal of disregarded materials to eliminate diseases and rodents by unloading disregarded materials to proper disposal sites.
- Repair roads and streets by using proper and adequate tools and/or material in accordance with state and federal regulation.
Equipment
- Assure proper knowledge of a variety of machinery (including jackhammer lawnmower Skid Steer Loader tamper electrical gas and hand tools) by demonstrating proper operation.
- Report any and all maintenance issues or malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Operate equipment that requires a CDL (i.e.. dump truck with air brakes)
Interdepartmental Assistance & other duties as assigned
- Assists department lead in the design and implementation of all landscaping projects to include design customer input cost estimating and project management.
- Provide assistance to other departments such as electrical plumbing and construction by removing building debris excavating electrical and plumbing ditches and/or support of running electrical and plumbing lines.
- Perform other duties as assigned such as water main repairs.
This is a full-time in-person essential position that is required to respond in person to call backs after hours to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency in a timely manner. Position works various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours due to weather such as snow removal emergencies etc.
Essential Positions. Positions that perform essential law enforcement highway maintenance and other support services directly necessary for the health safety and welfare of patients residents and inmates of state institutions or state facilities. Employees in essential positions can be only FLSA non-exempt and can be required to work unexpected or unusual work hours to perform the essential and/or emergency services of the department without delay and/or without interruption.
Call Back applies when an eligible employee is required to report to work before the start or after the end of a scheduled shift. If there is no release from work between the call back hours and regular shift it is considered a continuation of the shift and call back does not apply. When call back applies a minimum of two (2) hours of the employees regular base pay is guaranteed. Eligible employees are those who are eligible for overtime and any call back time is counted as work time.

Minimum Qualifications
- Applicants must have one year of large-scale landscaping and grounds maintenance experience in environments such as parks golf courses schools campuses etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience installing and maintaining irrigation systems
- Experience designing and maintaining large landscaping projects
Conditions of Employment
- All job offers are contingent on a successful physical exam which also includes a lift and range of motion test provided by a designated health care professional certifying the candidates ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

- Motor Vehicle Check
- Must possess a valid non-restricted Colorado Drivers License
- Out-of-State Drivers License holders must obtain a valid non-restricted Colorado Drivers License within 30 days of employment start date.
- This position requires State of Colorado residency at the time of application and residency within the state throughout the duration of employment in this position.
- A full pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons.
- Felony convictions conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position.

- Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.
- Travel This position will be required to drive State Vehicles as part of daily work assignment from site to site equipped with tools and equipment to perform daily duties. May be required to travel to training and meetings.
- Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption.
- Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
- Must be available for call back to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay and/or without interruption.
- Must be available for shift work.
- Will be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours due to weather such as snow removal emergencies etc.
- Use Handling or Exposure to hazardous materials Explain: Proximity to moving mechanical parts Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Exposure to electrical shock and or working in highly exposed places.
- EXPOSURE TO WEATHER - Exposure to hot cold wet humid or windy conditions caused by the weather. Must be willing and able to work in these conditions.
- Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position.
- Absent extraordinary circumstances prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
CDHS Selection Process
Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hours per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
