POSITION DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Intelligence & InvestigativeDivision Director and supervisors conducts administrative and criminalinvestigations within the various Divisions and Units of the Department ofPublic Safety and Correctional Services. These duties are carried out withtotal police/law enforcement powers as bestowed by Maryland State law forindividuals completing training as a police officer in the State of Marylandas provided for by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.

  • Receives allegations and conducts confidential investigations of criminal activity and allegations of serious misconduct.
  • Interviews complainants victims witnesses and individuals under investigation to gather information for investigations using approved acceptable standard interview and interrogation methods in accordance with established procedures.
  • Identifies and collects physical evidence and reports information related to assigned investigations using standard evidence collection tools.
  • Composes criminal and administrative investigation reports that are clear logical impartial and properly documented.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet allminimum qualifications to be considered and to appear on the list of peopleeligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high schoolcertificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police Training Commission regulation.

Experience: Two years of investigative work as an Internal Investigation Detective Provisional; or two years of comparable law enforcement investigative experience in a municipal county state or federal police agency.

1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Police Training Commission in accordance with Public Safety Article Section 3-207 Annotated Code of Maryland.

2. Candidatesmay substituteeducation from an accredited college or universityat the rate of 60credit hours including at least 15 credit hours of criminal justice courses for up to one year of the required experience.

may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in special investigations or military police classifications or specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at the rate of two years of military experience for one year of required experience.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to applicants who currently possess or havepossessedin thepastthree yearsLaw Enforcement (Police) Certification from the Maryland Police & Correctional Training Commissions.

Police Officer Recertification : 3 Years or Less Since Last Certified as a Police Officer according to Code of Maryland Regulation12.04.01.07/SectionB3

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for this classification must possess and maintain a current Maryland certification as a Police Officer.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Police Training Commission for police officers in accordance with Public Safety Article Section 3-207 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. Selection standards for police officer training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12 Subtitle 04 Chapter 01 and include the following:

U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status

Must be at least 21 years of age

A complete background investigation

Oral interview

Physical examination

Polygraph and psychological evaluations.

2. Candidates for this classification will be given a medical examination to determine their ability toperform job-related functions. Employees in this classification will be required to bear firearms and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis.

3. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in on a 24-hours a day basis and will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09 12.04.01 and Maryland Police Training Commission General Regulation .01-1 Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs

Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
