Description of Work

Salary Range: $37782 - $66120

Reporting to the Correctional Lieutenant II this position provides supervision of subordinate officers and their assigned tasks and activities regarding the custody and welfare of male offenders in a Medium custody state correctional facility. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Assigning lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post.
- Overseeing officer activities and performance and ensuring that the custody security and welfare of offenders is maintained.
- Arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy. May serve as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC).
- Supervising offenders in restrictive housing.
- Conducting shift line-up making shift assignments and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
- Completing reviewing and maintaining time reports duty rosters leave schedules performance evaluations and administrative forms.
- Completing Incident Reports Use of Force Disciplinaries and Grievances.

  • Knowledge of Prisons policy and procedures

Necessary Special Qualifications:

MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

This is a full-time position working rotating shifts withState Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. If selected for this position a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors a pay increase May result.

Albemarle Correctional Institution is located in Badin North Carolina and houses up to 856 male offenders in a medium custody facility.

Minimum Education and Experience

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years and six months of experience as a Correctional Officer

Or

Two years of experience as Correctional Officer II

Or

An equivalent combination of education and experience.
